As we have been "told" that it is an 800 series DAC I presume it is a stripped down 808 without the CD replay or Sooloos input.

I don't know the specs, but I think that it would be wrong to presume.

Setting a standard. Well I don't know any DAC apart from say DCS Vivaldi when it came that could really say that. (In the case you are listening from a DCS CD transport as the source because ethernet/file/USB was prone to jitter in comparison).
Hopefully highres connectivity has been improved over the 808.6/818.3 otherwise it would lack compared to the 'standard' reference DAC apart from a feature called MQA.
DSP8000SE, DSP7200SEHC, DSP5200SE sides, DSP7200SE rears, 861v8, 210, Sim2 Ultranero 4, Stewart Cinecurve 2.35:1, XEIT CM-5E Anamorphic lens, Dune HD Duo Cinema 8K and Wireworld Platinum 48G HDMI -> UHD722 -> Shunyata Omega Ethernet. Shunyata/Furutech power-cables/filters. SR Master Fuse@861v8. Uptone Etherregen with 10MHz OCXO clock.

Isn't the 818 the same as the 808 without the CD player?
Would this be like the 818 but without the digital out card?
That would bring me back to my point why the 818 isn't just more configurable.
If it has other enhancements over the 818v3, I don't know how I would feel about just having upgraded my device from v2...

Well they do have to be relevant in their market space of reference DAC's...
Can you set a standard with 24/96khz over ethernet? Or 1/2x non-native DSD (DoP) via USB-only?
Can 10 MQA albums offset that?

Agree that some successor of the ID41 capable of full hires is overdue. And given the MHR constraints perhaps this can only be used in the analog space.
Alternatively they could look at updating the MHR specs too and roll it out to 818...

My understanding is that MHR can handle 192kHz without any fancy folding. Of course that is arguably not "full hi-res" bearing in mind Bob's instructions that one should record at 4x or 8x (768kHz).

The Vivaldi IS stunning!! ... one of the finest products I've come across...! Ian

I don't know the specs, but I think that it would be wrong to presume. True, but I think we can assume, at the very least, that it will come minus a CD drive, otherwise it wouldn't be a DAC, it'd be a CD player.

If it's just an 800 series DAC, that's going to be a hell of a lot of empty cabinet and a lot of empty card space. Surely something more compact in custom case - Director/Prime aren't very big and later shows quality doesn't need a huge 800 series case.

Perhaps it will have extra cards for more digital connections? I remember some people wanted more of those on the 818v3.
