Hello,

I currently use a 561 solely to switch the digital inputs on a 566 via Meridian comms. I was thinking about getting a G68ADV to handle digital ins and outs and utilize component video switching for some older components that I have.

Would the G68 also be able to switch the inputs on the 566 the way my 561 does, thus eliminating the need for the 561.

As a followup - for 2 channel stereo would I get better performance from the DAC's in the G68 or the 566 (24bit)?

Probably down to personal preference.

G68ADV running latest FW should give you up sampling and apodising and that may be preferable? Later generation DACs so better performance maybe but equally G68 is a busy box so possibly noisier than a nice simple DAC?

Have a listen and decide. Doubt there's very much in it TBH. I'd be tempted to go for the simpler system and I'd leave out the 566. The G68 should be better on the face of it?

The 566 has PLL dejitter, the G68 has FIFO.

Truth is that they both have PLLs, but the one in the G68 can be much lower bandwidth (lower jitter) because it can afford to misalign to the incoming clock by multiple samples - the 566 would have to be within a single sample unless it has got a FIFO but Meridian never mentioned it.

As Richard mentioned, you've basically got apodising upsampling / 24 bit dither / FIFO dejtter vs nicer electrical environment.

I'd expect the G68 to sound better, but I guess you're in a position to hear both. I'd be interested to hear what you find.
