Neither until there is support for multichannel.

Sorry, I should have said, I kept the same responses for consistency with the first poll.

I've just started playing with Roon and for $120 a year and I'm almost certain to keep it.

It comes across as a substantial upgrade to Sooloos (which I'm guessing is how it was designed) and, compared to the cost of an MC200, seems reasonably good value.

That said, how many people outside of the serious Hifi market see this as good value is another matter and I would probably have planned to stay on Sooloos longer had I not had a spare (and silent) Linux server lying around.

The fact it can turn the Meridian system off and stream to other devices when I'm finished with it is the icing on the cake.

Hi there,

How long did it take you to prep your FLAC library for export from Sooloos to Roon ? Any advice/tips on this process you can share ?

Best /bt

I probably would not have switched to Roon if I couldn't go back to Sooloos. I first had both in one location. Now I have 2 QNAPs on Roon with Touch HP, one in Florida, one in NC that Marc Koval promises will talk to each other. Unfortunately, I got 20 terabytes total(4x5) each place, about half full but growing fast, so don't have a Sooloos library currently. Good to know I could go back with my current hardware.

They will talk to each other, mine do. I have fixed Internet IP addresses from my internet providers in both locations to ease the set up but QNAP's QNAPCloud URL system seems to work well.

You need to start with both systems pretty much the same, otherwise 20TB is going to take you a long time to initially replicate over the Internet.

I don't use the Real Time sync to give me a little window to recover stuff I accidentally delete. Instead I RSync once a week.

You'll need to do a bit of port forwarding on your two routers. PM me if you have any questions.

Thanks. I have identical equipment and drives each place. When I get up to the mountains in a couple of weeks I will plug in there, and,a mirror image will be waiting in Jacksonville.

I didn't have to do any prep, I simply dragged the backup I have of the FLAC files to the Roon app having set up 'organised folders'. I imagine it would have been the same from Sooloos, but thought this was a cleaner approach.

I had a couple of issues first time around, which are likely to have been down to the Linux ethernet driver, and changed to copying one folder at a time, but the issue went away when copying the files over a slower wireless connection.

If you are going from Sooloos to Roon I would use an export from Sooloos rather than a back up (if you have space).

The export files should all have metadata and track names making them easier to identify, and will be mapped to folders with the Sooloos artists' names.

Do monitor your export to check for failures. I also used the excellent Sooloos Interrogator to double check everything got through when I exported mine.

By all means then use organised folders in Roon to further refine the groupings.

Just a note to emphasise that I copied the music over from a backup I had of the FLAC files, not a backup of the Sooloos files!

Wondering.. Have we given up hope of a materially updated Sooloos? At least one that is marginally backward compatable?
