That would be good. I may be missing something though, I assumed that someone like Spotify would be storing files that were smaller and lower in quality than Tidal. If that is the case and they still want to offer this service, won't they need keep these smaller files still?

Cheers
Tom

Sorry, what I meant was that one MQA file could serve as the CD quality stream if the headers are prevented from passing and the high res stream. Lower quality streams would have to be streamed using existing files unless the MQA files could be transcoded to serve lower bit rate streams as well. This would require some overhead in terms of processing power but not much.

I think I read that Tidal had adaptive bitrates depending on network capabilities.

Or if I had poor signal on my phone, bit rates could be reduced to help.

Several exchanges between Mark Waldrep and Bob Stuart posted on Dr Aix's blog Real HD Audio these last couple of days. No minds changing that I can sense.

Dr. AIX as out of his depth as before, I think. Thanks for the heads-up!

At another site, Bob Stuart's very extensive comments to a long list of MQA questions have just been posted. No comments yet as the U.S. audiophile community with its many critics is just about headed for bed.

R. Stuart's extensive explanation and comments about MQA

That is what you call a comprehensive response! - Thanks for the link.

My first impression on reading is that MQA is much more customisable then when originally explained.

Cheers

That exceeds the quality of a conventional hi-fi magazine articles!
This is the first testament of the MQA-Bible! I'am involved in the MQA topic on this forum for a long time and have much read here. This level of detail and the precise answers from Bob and the MQA team (where it is possible and it would be no esoteric divination) are for me but genuine enriching! I now understand much better and have also received responses to not yet asked questions from me.
A big thank you to everyone involved - especially Bob Stuart and for the initiative of Computer Audiophile.

Stefan

That is a terrific Q&A.

It took me about 1.5 hours to read and I need to lay down for a rest now wink

Yup me too. Quite staggered at Bob's mastery and command of the subject.

You shouldn't be, VK. It's his life's work after all.

It's a great read but sadly I suspect all Bob's hard work will be wasted on the conspiracy theorists...

Of course. What I was getting at was how much of it has been distilled into a single document. There are many succinct statements in there which are loaded with (as you say) a lifetime of experience and knowledge. There can't be many individuals (if any) who understand more about digital audio (in its broadest sense, including its relationship to analogue) than Bob. Very impressive.
