As far as the ability to produce 1000 nits is concerned whilst my present set is not able to do this the panels supplied to Panasonic are produced by LG so if they can reach this level shouldn't mine also be able to do this with a firmware adjustment? I'm not sure how much extra HDR and increased brightness will enhance what I currently have so for now I live in the present with my fabulous OLED
I have the same TV as you. The LG 960V 65".
Good news is the recent firmware update enables support for HDR.
Increased brightness cannot be implemented by a simple firmware update. It requires hardware changes.

But the 960v sure is bright! I had to turn it down from 60 to 40. So I would not say current OLED panels have any brightness issues, and competes well with LCDm yet have superior blacks.
