M10 program plugs, they are 5-pin DIN plugs, does anyone here know how they are wired?

Then it would be straightforward to make up new sets, as the plugs and tools, like the speaker grill support is one of the components that goes missing over the years ...

Hi,

I was the bidder and winner of the M10 plugs [on eBay], not to worry though am working with fellow forum member to have a look how they are wired and he may then make new sets.

Will know more in the next couple of months as plugs are received tested and ease of modelling new ones.

That's brilliant news. I may be able to help. There was an auction on eBay in the US for the amplifier modules from an M10, and from the photos posted I have traced *part* of the wiring of the M10 program plug.

The M10 amplifier socket, is a 5 pin DIN socket, and is wired as follows (pins numbered 1-4-2-5-3, left to right, facing the socket)

Pin 1 - not connected
Pin 4 - red wire, which connects to the crossover
Pin 2 - not connected
Pin 5 - green wire, which connects to the crossover
Pin 3 - not connected
Screen - looks like the screen is connected to the chassis ground

One option is that pins [4,5] are wired [high, low] to give the three program plug combinations and one for no plug. But there may be some circuitry inside the program plug ...

Good luck

I do have the copies of the M10 amp photos. PM me if you want them. (I didn't take them, so I can't just ask Duncan to post them).

Hi,

Thanks for the information, the M10 amps came from the same unit although I did not look at the pictures as closely as you did, please have Duncan post them so that as we get started on figuring this out and we have some information to go by.

Unfortunately it is the sad end of another set of M10 speakers although before being de-constructed they were in rough shape.

Still have not been able to get my hands on a user manual but will keep on looking.

I have made arrangements (thanks Ian) for the M10 photos to be uploaded.

It is sad that people seem to let old M10s/M100s get into a state and then break them up instead of getting them repaired. Because new and shiny.

I just had my M10 revised, it costs a bit but for my budget it's hard to find a better speaker.

I do think the bass is a bit lacking in low volumes, so that is why I am very interested in the outcome of this plugs investigation. So I could use the more bass settings.

Btw during the revision I made some pictures of the interior. Is this interesting for Duncan site?

.. Bass at low volumes.

I have a pair of M100s, which I usually listen to at quite low volume setting (3-4 on a 101B). However, for the organ solo which comes at the end of choral evensong, I find turning the volume up substantially (8-9) makes a great difference. It doesn't affect the human voice that much, but you can hear the difference in the lower notes on the organ and the reverberation. It sounds and feels much more like being in a chapel or cathedral.

An update on M10 program plugs, still need more information though.

Each plug consists of a resistor and capacitor. I can determine the resistor values and believe capacitor(s) are 63V

If any one can help further, please add to this thread.

Regards I
