Watched a UHD film today via Amazon FireHD with the HDFury. No issues that I don't see with the HDFIX22 (the odd frame stutter, which I assume is caused by the 24fps frame rate - film should be 23.97fps)

Am assuming the big stutters I saw the other day were, as suspected, due to streaming issues.

Once we get UHD BD we should have a robust method of getting UHD onto our "legacy" displays.

With the imminent arrival of UHD Bluray Players and HDCP 2.2 compatibility with the HD621 it just dawned on me.

My Bluray player has 2 HDMI outputs which can be separated for video and audio.

I have never tried it but does anyone feed purely audio into the HD621 and video direct to a display / PJ

Does the HD621 work ok like that??

That will work just fine, many on here do that.

Though technically the BDP will not be sending out "Pure Audio", as HDMI would be transmitting a black screen rather than no video at all.

is this is an easy way round HDCP 2.2 - or does the sound still carry the protection?

Has anyone noticed a performance benefit from doing this sound or picture?

Also I assume the set Lip Sync delay in the HD621 will still be the same??

This is THE way around 2.2 *for* audio... it's why the new UHD players will have two HDMI - one at 1.4 for audio.

It's a good solution unless you have additional sources of 4k material (e.g. Fire TV) to complicate things.

Here's hoping 1 will do the lot in terms of streaming and Disc playback.

Don't expect that connecting a first generation UHD Blu-ray player to a television will be a glitch free process.

You may have to alter the setting of the HDMI input to play back UHD Blu-ray; and if you do that the television then may not be happy with an incoming 1080p signal.

Don't forget that neither the Samsung UHD Blu-ray player or the forthcoming Panasonic player; are Dolby Vision compatible.

It may pay to wait awhile before getting into UHD Blu-ray.

Having said that, I think I'll wait for the Panasonic UHD player, given all the problems people seem to be having with the Samsung.

Given that it seems the biggest factor in UHD Blu-ray picture quality is HDR and not resolution; I would be inclined to wait until there is both a player and a display that supports all flavours of HDR.

I understand that the chips that support Dolby Vision will not be available until the summer. So I guess that the first UHD Blu-ray players that support DV will arrive at the end of the year at the earliest.

Given that Warners and Sony have signed deals to use DV as their implementation of HDR; I think DV compatibility is worth waiting for.

I wouldn't be surprised if the first DV capable UHD Blu-ray comes from Sony.

The display needs to support HDMI 2.0a and HDCP2.2 to fully support Dolby Vision and the competing HDR High Dynamic Range format.

I concur that the ability to show HDR content and 10 bit colour depth, and hopefully true DCI colour space, will make a far bigger difference to picture quality than the increased resolution of 4K.

Tests have shown that displaying HDR content with 10 bit colour and DCI, at resolutions of only 720P, give a superior picture to standard 1080P Bluray.

All the streamed 4K video is heavily compressed, though much better with the new H265 compression. So compressed that i prefer 1080P Bluray at much higher H264 bit rates of around 29mbps.

The new Ultra HD Bluray discs also of course support Dolby Atmos/DTS:X, so next question is what will the new version/replacement of the HD621 do with this audio. Will it decode it to 7.1.4 channel PCM and feed to the new 861 (v10?) which may support the extra height channels....??

Quite a few of us would like an answer to that question. However if we are still guessing at the beginning of 2017, I wouldn't be surprised. I think I'll be keeping my hybrid system for quite some time yet.
