Thanks to the kind forum-member support - I could download Amy Duncan's album in MQA.

Now showing on DSP8000SE and 818v3 resolution is only 44k not 352k.

If the recording was added only in 44k or what is the situation with you?

The music I like and the sound quality is good - but maybe it gets even better

Hi,

I'm assuming this is the first time you have attempted to play MQA files. Is that correct?

What version of version of Meridian firmware in the 8000SE and 818v3?

You must be running the latest version for the MQA decoding and rendering to function.

How are you playing these files and getting the audio into the 818v3?

@Carl - Sorry I forgot to say more about my situation. I have about 10 2L-MQA albums and they work fine - MQA 352k - great sound.

Then I have a more jazzy 2L from "BNB" this is an older 2L recorded album and show 44k.

By waiting for more Jazz from the style I like - I wanted to hear the new album from Amy Ducan in MQA. I think for a brand new MQA recording it is in 352k. But it shows only 44k.

When I switch to one of the other 2L-albums I have the 352k's on the display. So it have to do with recording or download.

So my question is - has anyone of the forum users 352k showed with this album?

IMPORTANT DETAIL: on DSP8000SE it is to reed MQA 44k!

Amy Duncan's recording is FLAC 24-bit 44.1kHz MQA. It was not recorded in "high res" such as 352.

That statement seems to imply it was recorded digitally as 24/44.1. I find that surprising and unlikely. Digital is more likely to be 48 or 96k which means issuing 44.1 MQA makes no sense.

If it was recorded as analogue then the A to D conversion into an MQA file could and likely should have been at 4x or 8x rate.

Is it stated anywhere what the origins of the file are? This had better not be a CD file packaged as MQA (aka the early HDTracks model).

Can the OP confirm that the files are MQA and not just standard FLAC?

I am surprised that one of the first albums MQA appear in Amy Duncan and not in full resolution! Amy is a kind of brand ambassador of MQA as a HiRes recording would have been announced!

Fortunately is listen MQA 44k also quite good and the music I like.

Is the point of 24/44.1 MQA to demonstrate the Studio element? That is to enable correction of the ADC DAC process to occur, even though there is no origami-like unfolding going on?

I have found nothing yet that states whether the original recording is analogue or digital. I have seen that other MQA releases (from 2L) thus far, when in 44k are 24 bit, to accommodate MQA (I think). This still does not clarify the original source resolution.

It's showing MQA. 44k on my 818. I downloaded what was labeled as MQA from 7 Digital's US site.

I don't think it's unusual to still record in 44.1, especially if there is a home made element. All the samples in Logic Pro are 44.1 for instance.

can someone with good analogue system buy the LP and do an MQA to vinyl comparison - that would be interesting

Looking on the ONKYO music site, there is a selection of MQA tracks/albums.

The Amy Duncan album, along with some others are labelled as 16 Bit 44.1Khz MQA...priced at £9.99.

There are other various albums that state 24 Bit 352.8Khz MQA Studio, these are priced at £16.00.

It does seem that there will be different levels of MQA not 1x original unfolded to suit the level of equipment/DAC you may have.

Its looking like anything recorded pre-MQA may be ran through a process whereby it is known what ADC was originally used and can be compensated for...this being the low level MQA.

Future albums/songs could be directly recorded on an 'MQA-ADC', this would give us the Studio Quality we are all waiting for....maybe some already have??


Still lots of information that hasn't been cascaded that needs to be, regards to different levels of MQA quality/process involvement.

It does seem that some sites are highlighting the level of MQA you are buying and is reflected in the pricing.

How this will pan out regards to the streaming of MQA.....i imagine the differences will be highlighted on the DAC or DSP by the different frequencies used i.e MQA 44.1/92/192/ etc.

I'm still holding out until thinks become a little clearer regards to content.
