Drongo,

I have the same issue. Explorer 2, version 7.8, EDO finds the EX2 but only the first light is lit and no sound out.

The volume is set to fixed 100% in SB.

BTW, I think I just realized why.
You have to play with Roon, LMS 7.8 will not play it properly.

Thanks Magnus. You may be right; but I don't understand why this should be the case.

If (and I realise that is an assumption) you are getting bit perfect output from the SBT why should you need Roon to playback MQA?

As Joel; is the only person AFAIK who has got MQA to play via the SBT; perhaps he would be kind enough to do a little experiment?

If he could pass an MQA file via the SBT but not via Roon to the Explorer2; that should let us know if Roon was needed to allow MQA playback or not.

The reason I started to think this is the case is that I get sound out the digital connection but not via USB.

In neither case do I get the blue light.

So I think LMS 7.8 cannot send/stream a MQA file and then there is a bug affecting the USB out.

I recently posted on the Squeezebox Community forum about trying update my Squeezebox to 7.8 and wanting to play MQA files.

This is one the replies I got:

Quote
For MQA files you'll have to run roon (on a Windows machine, not your NAS until roon releases a Linux version). No current mechanism for MQA files with lms. Roon is using squeezeboxes as end points, but such squeezeboxes are no longer using lms.

So it does look as if for now; that trying get MQA from a source running LMS through a Squeezebox is a non starter sadly.

I'm still unsure as to why I cannot play anything from the SBT in the Explorer - even standard res material...

Two things:

1) Are there different versions of the Explorer²? Mine is brand new and came with the MQA firmware shipped on it.

2) There is no reason whatsoever why LMS should not be able to stream MQA files bit-perfectly to a Touch w/EDO plugin (and have this decoded in the USB-attached Explorer²)*.

* Assuming that the Touch is talking to the Explorer².

@Joel
A possible "lead" from a conversation I had earlier today (thanks Rick !) - what other plugins do you have installed on your SBT / did you have in LMS ?

It seems possible that there are no drivers on the SBT for the Explorer2 (mine), unless they've been installed separately, or equally likely, perhaps I have a plugin installed that is preventing a clean connection between the 2 devices.

Would it be possible for you to list your audio-related plugins & settings ? Ta !

Is there any way of finding out from M whether there have been any changes/revisions to the Explorer² between my one (s/n E20181) and yours?

If you look at my earlier post (#246822 - 02/10/16) you will see a screen shot of SBT showing the Explorer² in the output list.

I presume then that the SBT is talking to the Explorer². Or is that an incorrect assumption on my part?
