So what is the "Maintenance" USB port for? Not for maintenance? Configuration only?
Grumble grumble. Get with the new world. I don't think it's even possible to buy a laptop with RS232 today...

The USB maintenance port is purely for comms with the ID40/41 card.

Grumble grumble. Get with the new world. I don't think it's even possible to buy a laptop with RS232 today... USB would be just be smoke and mirrors - it would be unlimately serial so you still need to do the USB/Serial conversion somewhere. Better externally with a cheap replacable converter where Apple/Microsoft/Manufacturer dropping support for the chipset won't goose a very expensive piece of kit.

Most home automation utilises RS232 interface too, requiring no drivers and supporting long cable runs.

"Travel Set up" - Explorer 2, Macbook, Headphones all updated without a hitch. Quite nice to get that first blue light lit up.
I like ... more space and openness... then again as others have said more content closer to what I usually listen to would also help me determine if this is going to save the world of proper audio or not!

True to their word, Meridian sent me a new Explorer2 DAC which arrived this morning.
I use Pure Music on my MacBook and could get no blue light. I checked that the 1717 firmware was already loaded as promised and it was.
After a lot of seeking in Pure Music and its manual, hidden under an inappropriate menu called Music Streaming, I found the command to switch off upsampling. The shortcut of Command Shift U, I have memorised!!! Still no blue light... hit play... Blue Light!!
I am now listening to 2L files in full at CD resolution with STAX 009s until I am feeling nice and relaxed and ready to post on the impressions thread!

Because an 8x signal is getting to the DSP via MHR SpeakerLink. Interesting is possibly an understatement if you think about this.

Or are you saying this photo is of a legacy DSP speaker - NON SE ?
