I've just heard back from Des in support. Seems I have one of the units that can't be updated. Meridian USA to follow up.

Meridian .... will you ever get the communication with your customers right?

This was a known issue. Why else have the program identify the units. And by the looks of it affecting far more than five units.
So why not be proactive about it? I'm sure we all have registered our units on the Meridian, with serial numbers.

No response on the email I sent last night, I guess I have to call them ...

As I understand it they became aware at some point that some were affected, but whilst they knew the component that had an issue, they didn't have that correlated with serial numbers of completed units. They then achieved that by embedding an identifier within the Firmware release. Wishing you speedy resolution for your situation...

Patience is not easy in this whole MQA saga but I do feel more at ease after their very positive response to me to day. Hoping for the same for you and others so affected.

What they could have done is to release the same loader earlier when the issue was known and let us test. Not do it when it's already too late.
Not sure why I'm wasting my breath, this is the Meridian way. You pay with equal amounts of money and patience.

Ludwig -- I now have the 818 update file but have trouble installing it. The Flash Uploader doesn't see the 818. I have made sure the USB cable is plugged into the maintenance port, disconnected everything else from the 818 (except the DSP8ks), power-cycled everything. No luck. Windows 10 hypothesizes that the 818 has an old USB adapter that can't handle USB 3, which would be strange because the music input is over USB3, from the NUC. In fact the NUC has only USB 3 -- I'll try tonight with an older machine.

Does anybody know anything about this?

Strange, I did update the 818 six months ago, don't remember any problems...

I did the update this morning on my 818 and it went smoothly. But I'm using the old method--null modem cable from the laptop to the 818.

IIRC, I wasn't aware the 818 (also 808) was updatable via the maintenance USB port. I thought it had to be through the RS232 port using a USB to serial adaptor for those computers without a serial port (as mentioned after your post).

Please correct me if I am mistaken.

You're quite right Wayne, only the RS232 labelled port can be used for firmware updates.

Best
