Updated my signature box to reflect the new system.

With a variable digital output you loose resolution in theory, I have no experience how much is that in practice.

With the 861 is out of the chain, you need to make a new config file that does not include the 861 and the master DSP is the controller. Then control of the volume is via the MSR or the RS232 interface what Rick is offering. The advantage here is that you have full resolution.

Do it so, the Trinnov have to be setup to switch off the variable digital output and enable the full 7 fixed digital output.
Setup/calibrate procedure with the Trinnov:
Adjust the volume manually on your DSP in a loop with Trinnov calibration procedure,
So finally the calibration procedure of the Trinnov is fulfilled.

You have to re-read the manual and think over how the best way to do that.

It's great to hear how well it's working. I have to imagine that Trinnov is lending a large helping hand. Here in the USA, the support is remarkable.

Why? Mconfig does not affect the DSP speakers at all ... that is done purely using the MSR+ to re-type and config the DSP directly.

Don't forget this is multichannel system with a mix of DSP and non-Meridian speakers.
Every time the Trinnov volume is adjusted then the DSP volume would need to be manual changed to stay in sync. The only way it might work would be to use some form of translator however I have no idea if the volume setting data can be extracted from the Trinnov in order for it to translated into a Meridian RS232 volume command.

Yes, true to retype the DSP... Think to complicated.

Yes, I was also apprehensive about the loss in resolution, but the reality is that my system sounds so much better now, so I assume the positive effect is far larger than the negative effect.

Also I tend to listen loud, so the Trinnov Coax output is only slightly attenuated, so the loss in resolution is probably minimised.

Robert, if I could ship you the Trinnov, I would, but I can send you the user manual if you wish. It makes for interesting reading!

The more I listen the more I love it. Yesterday I was listening to Dark Side SACD very loud. I later saw that it was at 131dB peak(!), and my ears hurt for a few hours! But at the time I felt perfectly natural. A mark of good sound I guess.

Yep. Probably need to have an SPL meter with me while I listen!

Robert raised a good question. There is obviously some attenuation of the SPDIF into 8000, and that attenuation can be reduced by setting the 8000 at the lowest level. I have set it at 90 instead of 99 now. After a while I will try 80 and see if I can get the SPL I want at 0dB on the Trinnov.

Trinnov level goes above 0dB also! Need to see how far!
