Never say never, but I don't see how enabling MQA support into the SE DSP's or the new 8x8's will affect Red Book sources. On the face of it I agree. However, whilst the bonnet's up there's always the option to tweak the filtering...

I'm interested to know what the overall effect of the hardware/firmware will be on SE's ability with Red Book Never say never, but I don't see how enabling MQA support into the SE DSP's or the new 8x8's will affect Red Book sources. Meridian were claiming last February at Bristol that the new 808, for which we have waited almost a year, at least with new firmware, would make CDs sound better. The published specs of the 808 and 818 both claim a 40% reduction in jitter which could explain this assertion. So Carl is right that MQA enabling per se should not enhance CD playback. I don't know if the new firmware for DSP SEs has led to any performance improvement: I don't think any is claimed. What is claimed is that higher res can now gain access to the DSPs but whether that has to be via an 808/818 rather than an 861, for example, I don't know. But this does not answer the question about red book sound quality.

Meridian should have released the firmware today. That way, people could enjoy their first listen of MQA, time and time again...

I think it was a reference to Groundhog Day.
Sooloos, Roon, G series (with LPS upgrade), 800 series (with LPS upgrade), HD621, AC200, Prime and PS, DSPs old and new.
Purdeys, Moke, Leica, 'Blad. Only the best.
