Experience The Sound of MQA - Firmware Release Details

Meridian are delighted to announce the availability of MQA decoding firmware for their products, including:

• Explorer²
• Prime Headphone Amplifier
• 818v3
• 808v6
• Special Edition Loudspeakers
• 40th Anniversary System

Firmware will be available from Thursday, 4th February 2016 and details of how you can obtain it are outlined below.

A few comments verbatim from Meridian about MQA:
Quote
As MQA is a compatible format it can be enjoyed on a wide range of systems.

No other source guarantees to capture the sound of the original master recording from the studio.

MQA files and streams will play on all Meridian DSP Loudspeakers at a quality level above that of standard analogue systems.

We are the pioneers of the hi-res audio experience and as with all high quality sources, the better the audio components, the greater the end result.
Explorer² and the Prime Headphone Amplifier firmware can be obtained via the Support section of the Meridian website. These updates are designed to be downloaded by users directly.

For the 818v3, 808v6, Special Edition Loudspeakers and 40th Anniversary System firmware please contact your Meridian Premium Partner to discuss the firmware installation options.

Cheers,
Rick

Is it understood what aspects of MQA will be implemented at this time for 861-based systems mated to SE DSPs?

Main: 861v8, 818v3, 8000XE, 7200HCUSE, 7200.2, Roon Nucleus+, Shunyata Everest w/ Sigma XC and Alpha NR's, HD621, Oppo 103D, Panasonic P60ZT60 plasma. RJ45 switch on master SpeakerLink lines to select 861 or 818, Etherregen & ENO AG feeding the 818, M-Links.

This firmware doesn't apply to 861, so you'll still not be able to unfold the high resolution aspect of MQA files in an 861 and DSP SE system, they would play at CD resolution 44kHz/16bit.

So as I suspected, this sentence in the release: "MQA files and streams will play on all Meridian DSP Loudspeakers at a quality level above that of standard analogue systems" is hyperbole.

1) "Future proof"

And sell the 861 ASAP, and the standard DSP?
Is that was Meridian called "future proof"?
Mr. Stuart, look in the mirror and you will see how/was you are. Are you so blind or still trusting, that your technical department can't implement some "future proof" reserve or simply have the possibility to insert a new card if you/they are to weak - to say it friendly? Wake up !!

So 6 products can use MQA from HOW MUCH ?

2) Multichannel support

It looks like Meridian doesn't support MCh anymore.
800 is dead, new decoding is dead, 861 is dead, standard DSP are dead, the room processing is outdated many times -Trinnov is state of art for example-

Meridian have to made an statement and not go the way of a
Freanch leave

It's unfair not to tell their own sponsors -the customer how bought and still buying their staff - not to tell whats going on. It is a shame !!
But that the way that Meridian handle customers - and we should have learned that through examples multiple time in the past, still ignoring customers feeling and knowing that they are still buying. How comfortable you are feeling in your skin Mr. Stuart ?

-----------------

I bet there is no reaction at all from Meridian about that, M is depending on the thinking/planning of their financial owners, and as long all managers/chiefs get paid from them, they have not the intention and courage to do something.
Good night and keep going, you will get the feedback in the future.

I don't like your way.

Unfortunately in such financially uncertain times, businesses have to make decisions that in the first instance please the shareholders.

It would be nice however if the promised 192/24 update for my 5k's made an appearance wink

This doesn't mean that 861 and standard DSP will never be able to reap any of the rewards which MQA files can offer, simply that they aren't covered by this firmware release.
