There is also the option to use very directional speakers angled up (so listener receives reflected sound from above). There are specially developped speakers available and coming (I find the idea a bit awful, but...).
Btw I too have a 'hybrid' setup in my AV this days: Denon receiver into 861 to stereo amp and main speakers (so I use the 861 for stereo, and as a 'bypass' for cinema). And Audyssey DID find different measured delays/distances than the real-physic distances for main speakers (but I do use IA45 as analog input, so this card may have different latency than IA00).

I think subwoofer latency can be a fair problem too, especially where things like DSP, Eq and wireless connections are involved. Very difficult to work out distance and phase settings in relation to the main speakers manually.

Is there a way of hooking up DSP speakers to the Marantz (or equivilant) Atmos capable processor. I'm at a turning point in my M adventure with my G91 blown up and trying to consider all possibilities. Love the M speakers but the reliability experiences with my controller has left a bad taste in my mouth - and judging by my PMs I'm not alone. I would really miss Trifield but I wonder how much I would really loose in SQ terms with another processor in the loop - after all the DSPs do so much of the work already...

I've just come across this old thread now. What a great system you've built Cliff. Some blue-sky thinking going on there! Very impressive.
Re Simon's Q above; I doubt you'd be able to connect multiple DSPs to a Japanese AVR; they're designed to power any speakers connected to the relevant outputs, so I can't see how it could be done, but as anyone can tell you, my tech skills are permanently in first gear.

Thanks Not'arf. I'm eagerly awaiting the DTS:X upgrade which is coming in the next few weeks. Not that there's much content but the Neural:X (an algorthym which delivers height channels to standard DTS HD will hopefully deliver.
