We are still in the final preparations and our developers are working on the integration in the MQA for next major update. Sounds hopeful - albeit without specific scheduling. So wait here and for me much more on Meridian soft/hardware news! Please - to all Meridian Forum-Readers.

Do not despair Mat. Sevenoaks are usually quite slow in announcing their event; and often the details of what they have on offer and which star members of the Meridian team will be attending are not finalised until just a few days beforehand.

Has anyone had any contact with Sevenoaks Bristol to see if they intend putting on a side-show (as it were)? The possibility of a slew of MQA-enabled products being demonstrated could get me to go.
In the spirit of Spinaltap, I would like to confirm that I am not involved in the corrupt theft of a global sport.

Security codes now released from record companies to MQA and subsequently on to Meridian. Firmware update can now be built up and should be ready in next 4-6 weeks. Fingers crossed.Ducks lining up... Meridian working flat out on firmware as I write!

So are these "security codes" different to the "decoding libraries" referred to in the dealer release of 23 December 2015 (see below). This seems to imply that every time there is a firmware upgrade there must be reference back to the studios. Anyone understand this apparent two stage process? Or is there a DRM type code from the studios for each MQA file generated? If so, that sounds like an unwieldy system. We've had this communication from Meridian. [believed to have been issued on 23 December 2015] MQA Software for Meridian Products
MQA Ltd have now issued full public release specification decoding libraries to their partners, which as you know include Meridian Audio. The Meridian Engineering team is currently working on integrating these libraries into our software for testing in advance of full production release in the New Year.
This new software will supersede the current software in your MQA compatible product and will be required to enable the decode of the official MQA content soon to be publicly released by vendors such as 2L, Hi-Res Audio and TIDAL. So it does appear that a firmware update will be required before any current 'MQA Compatible' Meridian equipment will actually play MQA material (in MQA mode) Rick As Meridian have had this working and in place for some time I envisage it will merely require a recompile, test and then release.
Can't see this taking very long at all.
I purchased a track which even without MQA sounds very good.

If the firmware's now being worked on, what are the hardware implications : Explorer2 & Headphone Amp shouldn't require any physical update, but what about the other "endpoints"?

I know as much as everyone else here —which is to say nearly nothing— but I wonder if these security codes are the ones mentioned here on MQA's web site . Every MQA encoder will need access to an HSM (Hyper-Security Module) that issues the encrypted signatures contained within each file. Costs of owning and implementing HSM within your environment will generally range between £5,000 - £20,000 but it’s important you discuss this with your technical team and MQA.

The HSM module should optimally sit within the same network as the encoding computers. Its sole job is to hand out signatures for embedding into the file. A remote or cloud-based HSM is possible but performance will be degraded. Does this mean that the MQA firmware will need to be updated every time a new content provider (label/studio) signs on to provide MQA music?

Who knows! This is also interesting (from the MQA website Q & A section) How do I use MQA on packaged media such as CD, DVD or Blu-Ray Disc?
Every mastering studio that is certified as an MQA provider will have a tool to convert 24-bit MQA files to MQA16 files for use on CD. 24-bit files can be authored directly to DVD or Blu-Ray Disc without a change of format." This seems to imply that MQA may well be issued on CDs Also: How does MQA work for existing recordings already on a service?
MQA can run as a process on existing digital files already in your catalogue. The encoder can analyse and remove all the unwanted artefacts in the music – but it will be most effective when employed with the original master tape so that it can take into account all of the processes introduced in the chain. and How many tracks per day will run through the MQA encoder?
Conservative estimates indicate that the encoder can process approximately 100,000 tracks per day with access to an HSM module on its internal network. A clear indication that existing recordings may simply be bosched through the MQA encoder to give an MQA file. Nothing wrong with that, but it is straying from the original end to end concept of MQA, and a clear indication that there will be different levels of MQA-ness. I doubt whether we will know exactly what we are getting from every seller. The "little blue light" will not help in this regard.

Also, regarding your other post, we already know that there's a "white glove" level of encoding / decoding, which is created by revisiting the master tapes, and a backwards-engineering re-encoding level where you can take an already released file & strip the "damage" from it - if you know what equipment was used in the recording chain.

As MQA has been touted as an non DRM type of system There is likely a key pair with a key on the device and the file itself which unlocks access to supplementary data on the media which then tells the decoder what level of MQA is used and other necessary metadata.
