Akimo, I welcome your positive outlook that provides some badly needed balance. Most of us don’t know what’s happening. Any that do can’t say. It does no good for continued speculation about the current state. Things will soon change. I suggest the mods close this thread as it has served its purpose. MQA status is “delayed” and imo we all need a timeout.

I still want to hear the progress of MQA and rumours of such in this thread.

This is the key point. Meridian have made many promises but have failed to deliver. It does not matter who is to blame, they need to give us clarification as to where we stand and when they expect matters to be resolved.

I ordered an upgrade to my 808 that was promised last February. It became available in November when there were no MQA files to test it with. On 23 December we found out that new software is needed to play decoded MQA. We now have MQA files but no software. I have delayed my upgrade until I can test it playing MQA files.

Please talk to us Meridian: we are your most loyal customers!

I quite agree with you. This brochure is smothered in references to MQA. We deserve some clarification.

You are right. Meridian always used to be part of the main show but then switched to offering their demonstrations at nearby Sevenoaks, presumably to save money (the number of brands present has fluctuated over the last few years). They sometimes had a small stall selling F80s etc. in the main show and last year they had a small MQA demonstration via headphones and sponsored by What Hi-Fi. Their main MQA demonstration was at Sevenoaks.

I expect and hope that there will be another, perhaps larger, MQA event at the main show this year and that Meridian will do something special at Sevenoaks. But this is all optimistic speculation on my part.

Based on his responses in the comments it looks like maybe Michael Lavorgna missed the recent Auralic kerfuffle.

He's clearly not up to date with recent events.

His terminology is confusing the hell out his readers too. There's so much scope for misunderstanding with words like encoded/ decoded/ non-MQA etc etc. and that's before we get into encryption/ decryption and the different levels of MQA ("white glove" being the top level, according to Bob).

We ought to adopt a common standard on this forum.

I've attended three of the last four Bristol HiFi shows, and the concurrent Meridian demonstration at nearby Sevenoaks Bristol. The Bristol HiFi show is without doubt the most inhospitable environment for high quality music reproduction I have encountered; due to the number of competing companies turning up the volume of their systems to be heard above the melee.

What Meridian offer is something completely different and highly hospitable. Sevenoaks set up all their listening rooms with a range of Meridian systems from the Explorer to 8K in quiet, comfortable, uncrowded, home like environments, with attentive and supportive Meridian and Sevenoaks staff to hand. This happens over 2-3 days so you can pick a time to turn up and listen at your convenience.

I cannot speak highly enough of the service on offer and how over time it has led me to buy more and more Meridian gear. What a shame it appears to not be on offer this year. I'd go to hear MQA.
