I'm going to download the files & perform a comparison, when I have the time.
@ the Moderators : a suggestion - that we separate threads regarding MQA Hardware+Firmware / Decoded software & perceptions & comments / Undecoded software & perceptions & comments. It would make it (logically) easier for people to follow the relevant topics and would also separate discussions regarding the effect of the "packed" and "unpacked" deluge of MQA music that we're just about to experience....?

There IS a tiny bit of general information about remastering, decoding and MQA on the Nielsen Piano Music I downloaded at 2L a few days ago. Of course, me not having Sooloos or Roon, means that I don't have an clue how to play and compare. Probably best to open up a new thread, then I'm sure someone will help. It's also worth reviewing other threads on computer music playback on this forum and you'll need to list your existing equipment too. In short, if you have a computer and a USB capable DAC it should be possible to get you up and running very quickly.

Well, the Meridian Prime still doesn't turn on any lights than 1x, that's for sure, so I don't know exactly what I am hearing. Playing with Audirvana Plus and listening with B&W P7 headphones. There might be a slight difference, a bit like brightening/sharpening but can't say if it's better or not, if it is just the encoding or what happens once the decoding kicks in. Tests will have to be done on more pieces/people/equipment once MQA is finally here.

The Prime won't light up because it still has to be firmware upgraded to enable MQA decoding. What you are hearing is undecoded MQA. If you have a listen to an undecoded MQA track versus a standard 16/44 version of the same track you should be able to hear the improvement reasonably clearly, but I agree we need full decoding to get the full benefits.

7 digital just added MQA files for download to their test bench. Anybody know what "original resolution" means for the MQA files here? The file size is significantly smaller than all other formats.

Far right hand column of the test bench sheet. Most were originally recorded at DXD rates (24/352 or 24/384) with a couple at 24/96. I would be useful to have this information for all downloads or streamed MQA files.

Foobar with ASIO plays them at 44.1 except for the Ola Gjeilo piece which plays back at 48k.

That's exactly what one would expect for MQA without a decoder.

I also have the 192/24 album and I agree--they're very close. The MQA file might be a touch louder. Seems like I'm closer to the orchestra. Violin might be a little "sweeter" too. FWIW the 818 is showing 44k on both the MQA file and the album. The 6K upsample light is on both.
Ken
Edit: the 818 is showing 96k on the album.

Update from AURALiC: It is unfortunately that MQA has decided to pull back the integration on ARIES/ARIES LE during CES as they have decided to make it an 'end to end' technology which means it will always requests a MQA certificated DAC to work.
ARIES ARIES LE, will be able to playback or stream music contains MQA format but will not listed MQA certificated device, to benefit from MQA, you will need a MQA certificated DAC and this is the only way. We are sorry about the decision made by MQA. ... ... They have decided not to do on any digital output, also not on software side, like JRIVER or Roon, at least at right moment."

Just checked out the AURLiC link and read the comments that have been in made to their post. It always amazes me the vitriol people use when they find they are not going to get something for nothing. Why do people assume the manufacturers will invest time and money to provide something for no reward? I like the majority operate on a tight budget but understand if I want the benefit of cutting edge technology to further enhance the enjoyment of listening to great music then manufacturers and record companies need to have some recompense.
