I just recently got a G68XXV.

I reset system to Type 1. All 7.1 Analog.
Connected a DVD Blu-Ray player to DVD(D1) digital input.
Playing 2-channel music CD. Works
Playing movies with DTS/AC-3. No sound.

What am I doing wrong?
Firmware is at the latest 1.5.

Hi,

As it's a Blu-ray player, are you playing a DVD or Blu-ray disk?

I suspect the later; it which case it's most likely not playing DTS/AC-3 but rather DTS-HD MA or Dolby TrueHD both of which are lossless codexs that Meridian does not decode.

To play these codex you need to configure your Blu-ray player to internally decode and output multi-channel PCM via HDMI.

You also need a Meridian HD621 HDMI interface box, which then extracts the audio from the HDMI signal and outputs it Meridian SmartLink forum (3xSPDIF) that can be connected to the G68.

The other option would be configure the player to limit it coax output to 2 channel PCM and the vanilla DD and DTS/AC lossy formats.

Actually, I'm playing everything through a PC using Kodi with RCA SPDIF into the one of the digital input of G68, DVD (D1), to be exact.

I manage to get all audio for all format (2-channel, 5.1 chan AC-3/DTS).

Here's what I'm still struggling with:

When the PC feeds SPDIF to the 561, the 561 the decodes DTS/AC-3 properly it shows so on the front panel LED.

But on G68, it does not seem to recognize and decode DTS/AC-3. It just continues to use the DSP setting that is set on the input (Trifield, MuLogic, etc.).

Is there some setting on the G68 that allow the signal to be process base on it's original format and more importantly the G68 front panel LED would show the corresponding audio format?

Looking at the MConfig program setting, I don't see any DTS/AC-3 setting selection for multi-channel movies. Am I missing something?

The processor will give you the audio formats suitable for the current input signal, so if it's 2 Channel PCM you get Trifield, Stereo, etc.

understood. 2-chan is not a problem.
It's multi-chan, particularly DTS/AC-3 through digital SPDIF. It's not showing that it's processing/decoding the audio format.

Have you checked all your Kodi settings? It sounds like it is only sending 2 channel or have your tried a different film ?

Which suggests that it is not seeing an AC3/DTS audio data stream. Try scrolling through the "Display" options using your MSR remote and it will tell you what it is getting.

Can anyone tell me what I should be seeing on the panel when the input signal is either AC-3/DTS?

Mine just show Cinema. Pressing the DSP button just cycle through the default multichannel DSP setting, i.e. Discrete, PLIIx Musi6, PLIIx Movi6, THX, Cinema, etc.

The Display button does not seem to have any affect.

I guess I've been trained to see the actual encoded message when the signal is the encoded AC-3/DTS. Even in the 561 or any other surround processor that I have owned, AC-3 would show up as "Dolby D" and DTS would show as "DTS". And when these signal are being processed, no DSP preset can be used/applied. Press DSP button is a no-op function.

Does the G68 decide implement applying the DSP preset and not show these underlying encoded format and opt to always goes with Cinema or any of the multichannel DSP?

I assume you are using an MSR+. Hold "Function" down as you press "Display" to see what is what.

It looks like you are getting AC3/DTS given the Cinema, etc. preset options which are being displayed when you cycle the DSP button.

multichannel (legacy DD/DTS) processing occurs only if the source has been configured correctly in the Windows App with the source input configured as MD1 or MD2 (not last valid!) (or using the 861v6/861v8 SL multichannel input). The 6 "blue wires" have to plugged into the correct inputs otherwise the processor won't be able to decode the inputs.

This is all part of the fun and learning curve.

Sorry but I don't believe that is incorrect ... MD1 / MD2 inputs only have to be configured when connecting discrete multichannel digital inputs (3xSPDIF) ... i.e. from a HD621 or 800D.

For a DD / DTS bitstream which is delivered via a single coax feed, the G68 will automatically detects if the input i.e. D1 is receiving PCM or a bitstream. It then selects the appropriate (Configured) DSP for either 2 channel and multichannel.
