Hi decided to start a new topic as this problem doesn't relate to the original problem I had in the other topic.
My problem is upon turning on the system (after a few hours of no use) there will be no audio. The 861 is locking onto the signal though.
After many hours ruling out different things (even changing the PSU for £50) I have found a temporary fix for this. If I turn it on then of course as I said there will be no audio and then all I have to do is turn it off from the rear rocker switch and back on etc and choose a source and there will now be audio for the rest of the time I use the system.
I originally did take out some cards and and it worked but this 'fooled' me as I was of course turning it off and back on etc.
Does anybody know why on start up (after about 2hrs in standby) there will be no audio but turning it off/on via the rear rocker switch will produce audio 100% of the time?
Thanks

I really think this is a software issue.
If I use MConfig and 'fetch' from the 861 it will say it's 'type 1' (analogue) but clearly my setup is using 'type 6'. Then if I get out of the 861 on MConfig and then go back into it and look up the type it will say it's using my config settings etc.
This is very similar to what is happening where when it's first out of standby it could be 'type 1' and obviously no audio and then when I turn it off/on then it works so would be using 'type 6'.
Maybe I am wrong but this is the only thing I can think of.
I have re-installed the firmware numerous times and even started a new config file from scratch etc and also loading my previous file etc.

If I use MConfig and 'fetch' from the 861 it will say it's 'type 1' (analogue) but clearly my setup is using 'type 6'. This is typical behaviour when using fetch. Personally I'd only ever use fetch as a last resort to get a baseline as I don't trust it. Then if I get out of the 861 on MConfig and then go back into it and look up the type it will say it's using my config settings etc. When using Mconfig the 861 is actual using a custom type (your config) that is loaded by Mconfig, so this is what I would expect. Have you double checked your config to make sure that all the 861's sources that you are using are linked to specific audio input i.e. not 'Last Valid'? It's a common trip hazard. Regards, Carl

Carl,
Yes I have checked all the settings and there is no 'Last Valid' settings on the sources etc.
When I open MConfig and have my file in there and click on the 861/types then yes it is set for using the file type etc but when I store the file it will come up with 'setting user type 1' etc .
I assume all other 861v6 owners have the same when they upload their file?
If you do then I am barking up the wrong tree but if you don't then I think I'm on the right track.
Thanks

Hi again Graig,
I was looking back at all your posts just to recap on what you had done.
Reseated cards, changed PSU, loaded firmware, loaded config.
I think you've covered all the bases, all I can follow that up with is make sure that your procedure is bang on.
- Load the firmware - Re-type the 861 (just to make sure it has a factor reset) - Using the latest Mconfig program create a new config (don't use your old one). - Load the config (to 861 and HD621). - Test.
If it still fails after all that, than I'm afraid you looking at getting it serviced by M.
Regards, Carl

It could be the DSP output board/card has gone. It does happen.
Assume a new config file was used to account for any odd differences when we jumped to v6. IIRC there was an instruction to do that somewhere.

It could be the DSP cards but I did send them to M UK service 3 months ago and they checked them for me etc. so hopefully they are still ok.

Tried uploading the firmware again and created a new config file but it's still the same.
When it has no audio coming out of standby I have noticed changing Sources, DSP or Volume either directly on the front of the 861 or the remote is very sluggish and takes about 2-3 seconds for it to change etc. Once I restart it via the rear and it has audio then it is fast again changing sources, volume etc as it should be.
So these 2 things seemed to be linked and I have been told by M that it sounds likely to be the COM (CO00) card.

Here is the latest update.
M did send me a new CO00 card late last year but that didn't fix the problem etc.
The only thing left was to ship it over to Meridian in the UK (as we don't have a 'full' dealer here). That happened in early May 2016.
Upon receiving the 861v6, M said my CO00 board was in the 'old' location (J25) and since they have moved it to the 'new' location (J17) it has been working fine for them. Shame I was never told about this before even though I emailed pics of my card config but M have been very good about the mixup and covered shipping both ways etc.
While they have it there I decided to get them to do the v8 upgrade. They are shipping it back to me next week and hopefully all of my audio problems are well behind me.

Going for a v8 upgrade sounds like a good solution; for you & for Meridian!

I've never heard of the CO00 card being anywhere else than just next to the power connector. So where is it currently (can you provide a picture)? I'm interested because the CO00 card in my 861v4 is causing random restarts and front panel display issues. Didn't try another card slot yet. Thanks

They all came out with the CO00 card in J25 (near PS). A small amount experienced a problem with audio like mine and back in 2010 Bob Stuart identified the fix by changing CO00's location from J25 to J17. That certainly fixed my problem anyway as I was getting interference in J25.
