Interesting update from Audiostream blog re Mytek A/D converter in the works. Mytek is also coming out with a MQA certified A/D converter so you can go MQA end-to-end via Mytek. Expect to see the Brooklyn, which comes in silver or black, hit the streets in December 2015.

Some new snippets of information from Stereophile. Looks like CES is the new holy grail timeline.

Is it time for an MQA section? Would be nice to be free to talk about MQA products, which I suspect will start to become more and more common. We have a Streaming/roon section.

+1. Heaven forbid they might screw up and sell a lot of the Explorer2s piggy backing off others' free publicity.
This could include not only competing products, but downstream products including headphones, earbuds and high resolution speakers, etc. Not to mention the music company marketing, if and when we get something to play or stream.

Well if the Mytek is an example of the caliber of offering M is going with MQA, it's hard to disagree. On paper, no slouch and given the common DAC hardware, it should not disappoint. Not sure how anyone buys a DAC these days!

Not sure what you are saying. Do you mean how does anyone choose a DAC these days?

Not sure what you are saying. Do you mean how does anyone choose a DAC these days? Precisely. It seems that each successive DAC is incrementally better than the last, with better processing, DSD, DXD, etc. Now do you buy a DAC before the imminent launch of MQA, knowing that its likely more than just a software update for the full MQA offering. Then the question arises, do you want it link to Tidal, etc? In M land, I supposes your tied to 808/818 if your using DSP's. Even M had to wait a couple extra months before it rolled out products. High class, first world problems I conceed, but still an interesting time where waiting seems the most appropriate action.

Right. You need to decide on the feature set before sorting through which fit into your price range. What formats do you want? How will it be connected to source and output? Do you need a volume control? Up-sampling? Stereo or multichannel? Then the question arises, do you want it link to Tidal, etc? I don't know of any that do nor should they. That might be role of the renderer.

The Scottish singer/songwriter Amy Duncan has just announced that her new album Undercurrents, due for release in February next year, has been MQA encoded. Sound quality is very important to me and so I am delighted to say that Undercurrents has been encoded into a brand new streaming format which is being launched by Meridian Audio called MQA: Master Quality Authenticated.
I heard some of the MQA tracks in London last week, and the songs sounded expansive and rich like they did in the studio, with absolutely no loss of quality. Normally it is only the artists and producers that get to hear music in this way but this new format is going to be available for everyone to hear soon!
Really happy to say that Undercurrents will be part of the promotion of MQA as it is being introduced to the industry, alongside some other great music which I am looking forward to discovering. It's worth noting that this initiative came about through Amy's association with Edinburgh Meridian dealer Loud & Clear, who are previewing the album (on vinyl) on 6 February. Let's hope they play some MQA tracks too! Anyway, it's looking good for a real MQA push in the new year.
Main: MD600 > 818v3, Stax T8000/SR-X9000, SME 15/IV, PS Audio Stellar Phono, Musical Fidelity A3cr power amp, Dynaudio Special 40s. Study: MD600 > Moon 300D, Stax SRM-3/Lambda Classic.
