In your new answer you don't mention ID41. You could have put them on the MD600 and be streaming them across your network using Roon and the USB input of the 818v3.
No 18 in the Hall of fame I have simple tastes; I am content to settle for the best: GIK monster bass panels, rear wall. QNAP TVS 471i3. Roon into DSP5200SE via 210/ 218 zone... Explorer 2. Bluesound Pulse 2, Mini & Flex. 596v1, 518, Foxsat HD, Sony BDP, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos. MS200 to F80 for a Roon zone
1) How are these DSD files stored on Sooloos? 2) The implication is that Sooloos is already DSD to DoP capable. I would be VERY surprised if this was the case. 3) Meridian has talked about DoP via USB and SPDIF inputs only. 4) Or are these DSD files which have been pre-converted to PCM?

I have just loaded a DSD file (in DoP format) onto Sooloos (the current version) and it loaded fine - it has never done this before.
I then played the file into an independent DAC via ID41 on an 818v2 with MHR turned off. The sound through the speakers was a faint hiss but the track was audible underneath the hiss. I am guessing the hiss may be something to do with MHR so it may be worth trying through DSPs with MHR enabled.
The DAC was showing the DSD track at "24/88". For a DSD track it normally shows "DSD".

If there has been a change to enable DSD or it was always there but we missed it then why not just say? All the 'dancing round the facts' is unnecessary and unwarranted, Ludwig asked a simple question, a simple answer would make it clear for everyone.
The original idea for DoP was invented by dCS in 2011. It involves taking groups of 16 adjacent 1-bit samples from a DSD stream and packing them into the lower 16 bits of a 24/176.4 data stream. Data from the other channel of the stereo pair is packed the same way. A specific marker code in the top 8 bits identifies the data stream as DoP, rather than PCM. The resulting DoP stream can be transmitted through existing 24/192-capable USB, AES, Dual AES or SPDIF interfaces to a DoP-compatible DAC, which reassembles the original stereo DSD data stream COMPLETELY UNCHANGED.
If something goes wrong and the data stream is decoded as PCM, the output will be low-level noise with faint music in the back ground, so it fails safely. This can happen if the computer erases the marker code by applying a volume adjustment.

This is exactly what I am hearing, which implies that "it's almost there but not quite". But does this mean that Sooloos is streaming at 24/176 to the ID41. Clearly there is some conversion down to 24/88 somewhere along the line - could it be that the Sooloos core converts DSD to PCM at 24/88 and then streams?
BTW the analogue outputs on the 818 v2 are given the same low level hiss and faint background music.

I think you've hit the nail on the head: Sooloos mistakes the 176 DoP file as a regular PCM file (which it will resemble if it is not DoP-aware) and down-samples it (as it does with any 4x sample rate PCM file). It also says to me that Ian's DSD files are actually pre-converted to PCM (PCM, not DoP).
