Speculation hat on, spring has kind of passed and no MQA udpates have been seen. Did the owner change at Tidal kill their commitment to MQA and cause the delay we are seeing?

The latest version of the Meridian Sooloos software, version 2.2, will be on display, featuring integration with the TIDAL high-resolution streaming system.

Sooloos 2.2 also includes enhanced performance and improved iOS apps. At the same time, TIDAL will be launching their MQA streaming service, which will be presented in the suite.

TIDAL’s move follows the announcement made by 7Digital last December that they will be introducing MQA downloads and streaming to their platform.

No. Delay is the studios from what I've heard.

Anyone have any insight as to when the "next major announcement" will take place? It should be this week, shouldn't it, at the IFA in Berlin? Here's hoping for actual Meridian product delivery and content to actually listen to!

Just seen this release from the IFA event being held in Berlin 4-9th September.

Pioneer at IFA the first portable HiRes player with support for the MQA Lossless codec of Meridian, which enables the resolution of a HiRes recording with the data rate of an ordinary FLAC file.

The Digital Audio Player XDP-100R with 4.7 inch display uses Android as the operating system and plays FLAC and WAV files with resolutions up to 384kHz / 24bit and DSD data with up to 11.2MHz.

The Pioneer XDP-100R features high-quality audio components of ESS, such as the D / A converter DAC ES9018K2M SABRE and the amplifier SABRE 9601K, which are housed to minimize the interference in a decoupled area within the aluminum case. Analog circuits and power to the Pioneer Players are as far apart as possible, so that the audio signals are not affected by other fields
I'm sure there will be more to follow. Product announcments like this can only be good for helping secure MQA.

I would not be surprised if another brand is MQA compatible before any Meridian processor or Audio Core has been released.

It certainly bodes well seeing many manufacturers deeming it worth spending money developing and producing products for MQA.

Now I need me some source material!

Raumfeld Plans High-Res Wireless Multiroom Audio

Quote
Raumfeld is also considering the addition of high-res DSD-file playback and support for Meridian’s high-resolution MQA (Master Quality Authenticated) technology, which delivers higher sound quality in smaller files at lower bit rates than today’s high-resolution music formats.

I just noticed that Raumfeld announcement was from April 2015. The article said that a US launch for their speakers was planned for 1 Sep. Their US web site still says, "coming Fall 2015".

On the other hand, this article from Aug. 25, 2015 says that Bluesound has MQA support on its roadmap.

Quote
Future plans: BlueSound’s roadmap includes:
--adoption of Meridian’s MQA (Master Quality Authenticated) audio technology. BlueSound products will likely be in the first wave of MQA-equipped products, which will likely be available this year, the company said. For streaming and downloading music, MQA files deliver higher performance sound quality in smaller files compared to today’s high-resolution music files. Music from analog, PCM and DSD masters can be MQA-encoded and placed inside any lossless-audio “container” such as FLAC, ALAC or WAV and can be played back in lower resolution on non-MQA devices.

First off, congratulations to Bob for his well deserved award. Let's hope the innovation and quality continue. I am thrilled to be a part of the "Meridian adventure."

However, IFA is now done, and as far as I have heard, no major announcement occurred. Honestly, I am p---ed off. If you introduce a product or technology, it does not make sense to have 9 months go by with nothing to give the consumer in the way of software, product or even information. I understand that the studios may be a major factor in the delay, but say SOMETHING! Explain the situation, especially when you've gone on record saying a major announcement is scheduled.

I don't mean to be negative, but this is ridiculous.

Regards to all and again, congrats to Bob.

Wayne,

I think you need to consider how Meridian chose to communicate with their customers, which is normally to beaver away on something, then release it to aclaim, as against the typical method of announce something coming, build awareness, then release. There's clear pros and cons.

From a customer perspective, can be confusing. Making up for that, you never suffer from building expectations, only to annoy customers when things are late.

The good news is that Meridian does have a very good track record of eventually releasing stuff.

Meridian were very open in communicating what MQA was before it actually reached market. We now know more about why the SEs were necessary, and the 818v3 is much anticipated for this very reason.

Unfortunately this openness has proved a double-edged sword. That MQA is such a major and complex technology, involving so many companies and classes of companies (labels, hardware companies, streaming companies, etc) means it was inevitably going to take time to bring together. Hence MQA Ltd being a whole separate company.

I know that there are lots of major players involved, and the MQA team are working hard to bring it all to market.

Personally, my life does not depend on it being released quickly, and I don't much mind if it takes a bit more time to tie up the details. smile
