After reading the On silent I hear a pop when volume goes from 72-73 and 86-87" topicI wondered, what volume do you guys consider 'loud enough'? I find 65 is more than enough for everything, more than loud enough to rattle fixtures and fittings, 70 and above has got to have the digital clipping light blinking away like crazy, especially on hot recordings of late. I listen to Tidal through Roon using Explorer 1. I usually listen at 68-70 high quality tracks sound loud at this volume to me. Room is 18x11x9.

For music, circa 65 ... sometimes up to 75 for certain tracks, to feel the music, but I'd not run that high for any sustained period.

70 and above has got to have the digital clipping light blinking away like crazy That doesn't sound right; irrespective of what I feed my system (metal, movie soundtracks) the light won't blink until mid-90s, and that will be the 5000C. The 5500s virtually never clip. For music it's generally ~ 65 but then most of my music listening is non-critical ie I have it on whilst doing other things. If I do sit down to specifically listen to a piece it will be one of my favourites so I'll tend to crank it up a bit, 70 - 75. For movies my default setting is 75 as a starting point. It will never go lower than that but depending on the nature of the soundtrack it will often go up to 80 or so. Occasionally, if a soundtrack is really good, I can have it in the 90s. Speech won't feel much louder, but the loud stuff can sound stunning. Peter Jackson's King Kong demands to be played at 95+!!

My setup is CD and C10 direct in to the speakers, I have played a movie through them and it was very quiet which would require the volume to be upped a lot.
Looking at your setup you appear to have 2 Gibraltars?!? Would that be taking the low frequencies away from the 5500's or supplementing them?
