It adds video scaling like the G9x. This does not include the high resolution audio support.

I'm amazed then that there is no new software for the 800 series...

Have they eliminated the chroma bug in the upgrade in any way?

I currently run 480i component out of my 800, but routinely am bothered by the chroma bug. My display is only analog in for now.

I'm not familiar enough with the MPEG decoder architecture to know if chroma bug could be fixed with a firmware update.

I doubt it, but I don't know with any certainty.

Cheers,

Perhaps if they use a Faroudja type filter they can mask the CUE (chroma bug)? Id be curious too- but honestly, the output is so clean out of the analog outs that I am more than satisfied with DVD video on the 800. I am now just waiting for the new paradigm of whatever happens with HD DVD....

Jerry

SDI out is even better. The high frequencys were better on my system (800SDI -> Holo3d-2 -> Barco G808s)

Jerry,

They don't have to use a "Faroudja type filter", they use Faroudja products for deinterlacing and scaling so they can actually use a Faroudja filter.

The trade off, is that you sacrifice resolution which equates to sharpness.

Stacey can chime in and fix this if I botch it, but I believe Faroudja's LPF cuts out half of the chroma resolution.

Cheers,

John,
I've heard very mixed things about the video quality from people who I trust. Some say its great, others say the output from the M SDI card is not really all that great.

My understanding on the Faroudja method is, yes, it cuts out some of the chroma because of a bottleneck in their product that requires the 480i signal to be converted into y/c. From there it does their chroma enhancement by mapping the chroma channel to information in the luminance channel. You'll have to pardon me if I have this wrong, its been a little while. In any event, I can tell you that analog out of the 800->Faroudja NRS->DVI->DLP= WOWOWOWOWOW!!!! picture. Extremely vibrant colors. I am so satisfied with the results that I just have lost the desire to upgrade and upgrade. I think I am waiting for the eventual HD-DVD- whenever that happens!

Best regards,
Jerry
