John:
The only DVD-As I've tried to transfer have been 96K native which have passed successfully. Let me see what happens with some 192K content. One moment please... While 192K is in all likelihood being transferred out of the player, the G68 shows 48k (yes lower case) and has no playable output on 24/192K material.
This could be a function of the internal dip switches, which are set to 88.4K (96K works here as well). I'm not going to bother with testing it further, as I'm pretty sure the G68 isn't using the 4x SPDIF receiver parts.
There's more apparent detail on the G91 than on the DV-668AV, as I said earlier the extensive jitter control on both sides (G91/G68) and MHR are playing a part in the overall improvement in this regard.
DVD-A from the Pioneer isn't bad at all, but it isn't quite up to the high standard set by the G91.
Paolo:
DTS-CDs work fine, and upsampling is engaging. I use the G91 for DVD-Video at this time, as the DV-668AV doesn't have scaling on its HDMI output. Again, DTS-CDs sound better on the G91 as opposed to the Pioneer unit.
For DVD-Video sound quality, I haven't had time to do testing and I'm not particularly concerned about it in all honesty. I have this player strictly for the compatible digital output for SA-CD.
Is the cost differential for DVD-Audio, CD and DVD-Video worth it? I can't decide this for you. For me it is, but it's far easier to spend someone else's money for them
