Slightly different recommendation today. I was googling an old Elton John track which I remember from a long time back but which hadn't been popular. Turns out it was 'Ego' (I remembered part of the video on old slam door BR trains).

I watched a version on Youtube. Then followed an interesting link on the right hand side and kept doing the same to see where it took me:

- Elton John & Axl Rose performing 'Bohemian Rhapsody' with Queen (post Mercury)
- same pair doing 'November Rain' (with G'n'R)
- Slash & a TV acoustic version of "Sweet Child o' Mine"
- Mick Hucknall, Slash, Ronnie Woods, BB King & others jamming.

Splendid.

I learned that: Mick Hucknall can sing, Slash can play guitar and I'm going to have to explore the Tedeschi Trucks band.

+1 on Tedeschi Trucks, you are in for a treat.

The Rippingtons - 'Fountain of Youth'

We are off to see Ryo Natoyama at the Cheletenham Uke Festival on Saturday. Enjoy this funky playing, he is amazing.

Last December, Emerson, Lake & Palmer released the 40th anniversary edition of 'Brain Salad Surgery'. At £72, it was much too expensive for me.

So, I was pleased to recently bag a copy for £35 from Amazon. Other sites are still selling it for the original asking price.

The pack contains 4 x CD's, 1 x DVD and 1 x LP.

One disc contains the following (mostly) 24/96 versions of Brain Salad Surgery...

MLP Lossless 5.1 Surround,
MLP Lossless 2.0 Stereo,
DTS 5.1 Digital Surround,
Dolby Digital (24/48),
LPCM 2.0 Stereo.

I've successfully ripped/extracted the .FLAC files for listening via my SBT/Director.

(FYI, the much cheaper 3 x CD set does not feature the 5.1 mix).

Hannah Aldridge my new favourite. Play her on Tidal, the album is called Razorwire, for some great Americana. We saw Hannah at Maverick festival Suffolk on The Barn stage. Wow that was a hot day.

I have always been a fan of Americana but stuck to the tried and true like Lucinda Williams and Steve Earle. After receiving a gift subscription to the British publication Uncut, I found Outlaw Country, the Sirrius radio Channel. On Outlaw Country I found Whitey Morgan and the 78's which led to:
Sonic Ranch- 10 cuts of Amazing Honky Tonk Country. Not a weak cut to be found. All are outstanding not least because of the obvious tightness of the band. A mix of George Jons, Hank Junior and with the piano thrown, Delbert McClinton. See a detailed review at

There is so much great new music in the Americana genre that I can't keep up.
Some great American acts pass through The Little Rabbit Barn and so I am lucky enough to see them close up and Live.
Anne McCue was a revelation for me recently but Don Gallardo, Sonia Leigh and Hannah Alsridge were at the maverick festival and impressed.
Don Gallardo was backed by a local UK band, The Roselys.
