I think a lot changed either last Sooloos update or the one before (they both occurred in quick succession). iirc that Sooloos is now using the superdupa Roon metadata service (either directly on Roon servers or indirectly on Meridian servers) rather than their old Sooloos metadata service. It is possible that the Roon metadata service was based on the Sooloos metadata service however, even if it was, I think it is fair to say that it has been significantly revamped to support the needs of Roon and all reports were that Sooloos is much better for benefiting from this, except for the service outing a few days after launch that persisted over a weekend/holiday.

I think the recent Sooloos outage was fixed (at least in part) with the switch to Sooloos using the Roon databases. These are better optimised but there were a few transition glitches (Easter weekend IIRC).

HQ said they were proud to be first customers of this IIRC.

So Sooloos has access (to a sub-set?) of the Roon data however, that's just one part of the story. What's also very important is how that data is mined to yield results i.e. accurate album matches.

I suspect that Roon and Sooloos use different algorithms to do this.

Regards,
Carl

Carl, absolutely right. I think there will be some significant differences too.

My Roon stats are - albums imported = 11,362, albums identified by Roon = 9,124, a "failure to identify rate" of 20%. These albums were imported from direct dBpoweramp rips rather than albums exported from Sooloos. I have a large classical component to my collection.

And can you confirm that it took about 2 hours to import those 11k albums??

Also, have your tried the "Identify Album" option in Roon to now identify those not successfully identified as yet??

It took most of the working day to load the albums - 5 to 6 hours.

Editing the albums one-by-one is not really practical given the numbers involved - since I'm very happy with the underlying metadata on the 2000+ unidentified albums I doubt whether I will bother.

The only ones I will fix are those where Roon has misclassified an album (eg split up a double album or a box set into different titles/ artists etc) - these do not form part of the "unidentified" portion and are therefore much harder to find, but once found are easy to fix by reverting to basic user metadata. Not sure how many of these there are but it is certainly is in the hundreds.

Does Roon support track level metadata?
