Shame the PC can't be a local host - seems a backward step given it can be on Control:PC and the Web UI at present - and I find it works really well running directly from my Surface 2...
Hopefully the exisitng web UI will remain in tandem so we can still access this functionality for non critical listening...
Thanks for the update though - loving this extra communication!
Main: MS600, G61R, DSP3100Vx3, DSP33x2, SW1600, Samsung 65JS9500 TV, Sony X800, Wireworld Star*light video cabling, Isotek Vision, Isotek Elite/Prem mains cabling. Office: Roon ROCK on NUC7i5, Allo USBridge + iFi PSU, Prime Amp/PSU, Fostex TH900. On the Go: Surface Pro, Explorer2, Sennheiser Momentum M2 Smyth Realiser2 on pre-order :-)
I can use Control:PC to control zones running under Control:PC on other PCs.
If Touch:PC can also control Control:PC zones on other machines, then it should be able to control a Control:PC zone running on the same PC as Touch:PC.
Thus you have your solution, albeit not in a single application.

Our experience teaches us without any doubt that to get the best sound you need dedicated and carefully optimised hardware at the point where audio becomes analogue. It's no accident that the 800 Series, our dedicated endpoints such as MS600 and MS200 and the DSP loudspeakers are designed as they are.
Which would seem to be why allowing audio from a touch screen computer would compromise Meridian's reputation for audio quality. People would think they are getting a cheap C15 forgetting the audio quality bit. Adding an MS200 for audio quality seems fair all round to me.
Thoughts, Chris
No 18 in the Hall of fame I have simple tastes; I am content to settle for the best: GIK monster bass panels, rear wall. QNAP TVS 471i3. Roon into DSP5200SE via 210/ 218 zone... Explorer 2. Bluesound Pulse 2, Mini & Flex. 596v1, 518, Foxsat HD, Sony BDP, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos. MS200 to F80 for a Roon zone
However, you could use Control:PC or Control:Mac with a USB endpoint such as a Prime, Explorer, or Director... once Control:PC and Control:Mac are updated to do bit-perfect...

If I want to 'own' my music system (Sooloos), rather than 'rent' it (Roon)...
Hi,
Sorry I don't follow your thought train here with this distinction. Both Sooloos and Roon support playing your 'own' local audio file and again both support a lossless streaming options 'rent' from Tidal. Am I missing something?

My thoughts on this list:
Sooloos Presently the Sooloos Core does not run on QNAP, but Meridian have said it's on the roadmap. So today you would also need a Sooloos device to run the Core i.e. a MC200.
Roon Presently the Roon appplication does not run on QNAP, it is on the roadmap but I've know idea on timing. Thus today you would also need a PC or Mac. Also the Roon application does not run on iPad, it is on the roadmap, but most likely support for Android will be launched first.
BobS has clearly stated that a new version of Sooloos will specifically run on a QNAP HS-251. I am assuming that I will be able to control such a system (to a MS200 end-point via iPad). Is this correct?
Roon is a monthly subscription service (if one chooses not to buy into a lifetime subscription), Sooloos isn't.
With Roon, 'all that glisters isn't Gold' (Shakespeare). With all the good will in the world, it's a start-up company. I hope that it thrives. However, Meridian by comparison is firmly established.
So, without looking at Roon through rose-tinted spectacles, I'm simply asking if my premise of running Sooloos through a QNAP HS-251 to a MS200 is a viable alternative to Roon.

Speaking of costs, if one was starting today and making a choice between Sooloos and Roon, I wonder how does one value one's time?? Do you regard it as "meaningless" when it comes to cost... or as an invaluable resource that you can never get back??
Reason I ask is that importing 1,000 Albums into Roon takes approx 10 minutes [during which you can make a tea / coffee]... while importing the same 1,000 Albums into Sooloos will take a minimum of approx 5,000 minutes, [during which the process demands your utmost attention to ensure that the correct metadata is used].
And of course, you need to multiply those Import Times by however many thousand albums you have!!
I wonder how does one value that ~80+ manhour time difference when it comes to evaluating the relative costs entering into either eco-system??... [just to put that in perspective, that is 2 hours a night for 40 nights, for just the first 1,000 Albums]
Likewise, I also wonder how does one value the undoubted differences that exist in the ease-of-use and flexibility of one eco-system over the other??
