So, just keeping score for a second...........

Apple takes 30% off the top for contributing exactly NOTHING

Then the Label takes up to 65% of the remaining......again contributing very little, if anything

And the Artist is left with a max of 20% of your monthly subscription.......and he only gets that after he's paid off any initial advance from the Label

And then the Press has the audacity to "condemn" the "Greedy Artists" in those spate of recent anti-Tidal rants

Say what you want about the motives of the Tidal honchos, but if they are able to swing the tide such that the Artist is the one getting 65% of our monthly subs, then they will have done us listeners and the Artists a great service IMHO

Reward the people making the music.......not the parasites who contribute little to nothing

It appeared once under Control:PC Messages.
Under Accounts/TIDAL it also said not logged in.

Temporary outage it seems and fine after two core reboots. I had trouble listening to music in the webapp as well so not specific to just Sooloos listening.

That's why artists need to tour or sell CD's off their own site. That is where they make their money and they can sell there music (CD's) and keep almost everything.

I wish more artists were set up with their own online shops. I'd much prefer to buy music that way in full support of their endeavours.

The problem is George that most "Artist Websites" and shops are actually owned and managed by the Labels... and the Labels still take their majority cut, before passing the 20-25% onto the Artist.

The Licensing Agreement between the Artist and Label also covers these types of Sales Revenues (for many Artists) ... and as you might expect, the Agreement is always written in favour of the label.

Even the CD's sold at concerts are typically sold by the Promoters on behalf of the Label... which again ensures that the Label takes their cut, before the Artist benefits.

Artists like Radiohead and a minority of others are able to release their material from their own website and benefit accordingly... but that is far from typical for most Artists.

This is where Pledge Funding helps a lot. They have to raise the amount in the time to release the monies pledged.
Then they fulfil their obligations to pledgers, and after that all the monies above manufacturing costs and writing royalties is their own.
Write you're own songs and you get to keep it all.
You still have to work though, gigging hard seems to be the way to sell and build a fan base, living your dream as you go.

This is why we should IMHO all support live music, and small venues like the LRB are so important in providing artists with the opportunity to cast their magic.
On top of that, it's great fun and a cheap night out.

Burning Shed is one of my favourite sources for music as its been around a fair while and still remain reasonably competitive price wise .

They also do occasional specials of Bowie/Steven Wilson/Porcupine Tree/Pineapple Thief and aim to reward the artists rather then the middle men .
