Have been thinking about how you would combine MQA with the M systems. Consider two extreme options.
A. Decode MQA and render to 192 or 384 PCM as early as possible, in the input card. Architecturally simple and elegant: a new function up front, and nothing needs modification downstream. But challenging to implement: all the downstream systems and protocols have to handle the higher data rates.
B. Decode and render as late as possible: only the DAC has to change. But this doesn't work because lots of processing in the system would mess with the MQA origami data. Bass management, Trifield and MRC would destroy the MQA data. (Even inside the DSP there is plenty of destructive processing, starting with the crossovers; at minimum MQA rendering would have to be in the DSP engine.)
Neither extreme looks good. Maybe there is a middle ground, where some processes are MQA aware. Or some functions are disabled with MQA.
(Similar to my concerns about DSD in the Sooloos update thread.)
