Does anyone how the MC200 audio card connects inside the MC200 and whether it is likely to make a viable sound card connected to a different motherboard running a different OS.

I guess at its simplest level, does the MC200 sound card connect via internal USB and utilise off the shelf drivers in much the same way as Explorer does on OSX? Except I'm thinking Ubuntu here not OSX.

Maybe not answering your question but Dr. Aix reported in yesterdays email re AXPONA that himself and Benchmark uses lynx card to get high res out of a computer.

Duncs site has a couple of photos of the inside of the MC200, but I'm sure you've already looked there.

Yep. It's not clear from the image whether the connector is internal USB and the other lead is possibly for SpeakerLink comms in some way?

And of course, if USB, whether it's a standard USB audio driver bit like Explorer.

The comms bit is useful as I feel that if I ditched Sooloos and went with custom motherboard running say Roon, I would miss the integrated volume control and power on (via SpeakerLink) from the apps that Sooloos offers. At least if the SpeakerLink comms was available via the MC200 soundcard, it would give a fighting chance of implementing something.

The only connection to the motherboard is USB.

The other lead coming off the audio board is to the LED (provides the pulsing / solid on / off state)

The audioboard has the Meridian comms but you would need a custom driver that understands it (think it's an FTDI serial interface that is hooked into the comms interface, but it's been a while since I've poked at it)

I forget about the MC200, but I remember the C15 card is custom and does not use the standard USB audio drivers.

Indeed the audio card only connects to the main board via USB. Here's a picture from the unit I used to have that might help.

I can't remember if the MC200 up-samples or not - does it?

It does with apodisising. You can choose in set up. Chris smile

Cheers Chris, so if one builds a PC style machine and one uses Roon. There will be no up-sampling - is this correct. Unless one adds a MS600 etc

Where does the up-sampling happen? Not in the sound card!

cheers

I think there will be apodizing and upsampling using an MC200 in a Roon system. All you've done is swap the Core functions to the PC style machine.

Shaun, you can turn off the core in MC200 and use it as an Audio endpoint at 2X sample rate.
I am not sure of you can use the Store here. Chris smile
