Just thinking, Meridian need a subscription free, reliable UI for Sooloos and even if they had adopted the Roon development, by it's very advanced nature and complexity it would be impossible for them to Implement it on a FOC basis.
This and keeping it up to date, cross platform would be just too much without ongoing funding.
So, as I see it, with no knowledge, a decision had to be made at MHQ.
1/ Sooloos, as is, supplied as a turnkey solution.
I like it, many people do. It's simple, easy to navigate once you have a library ripped or even simpler integrated with Tidal (once the teething problems are sorted out) many music lovers will find it's all they want or need.
2/ For the more demanding and computer literate customer a more dynamic system which still delivers the audio quality but with an even richer user experiance that crosses platforms and allows the ultimate in flexibility and integration.
The issue on how to manage this seems to be that Roon, as option 2 is known, is split off and allowed to do what it's good at whilst being still integrated into the Meridian fold for those who choose it.
These customers will have to subscribe in some way as that's how the development will be funded.
Thinking about it this way, it kinda makes sense to me, of course I could be wrong. Chris
