In a dedicated listening room well soundproofed with no furniture etc. how big would a room have to be for a set of 8000s approximately?

This was asked at HH2:

Bob Stuart was asked which M speaker would sound best in a phone box?

His answer was "DSP8k".

Mine work fine firing across a 3.6m x 3.9m room (ignoring a bay window). Firing across keeps them away from side walls so the bass units are not compromised. They are probably 15cm from the front wall.

The dedicated room is carpeted, has sound-deadening curtains, a three-seater sofa and a very well insulated suspended floor. There are very rare bass modes at high volumes on film soundtracks. MRC is not in use.

Thought as much the room correction technology now with bass alignment is amazing.

I'll skip the 7200 and head for the 8000s hopefully buy a pair off Reuben / Chris in the future can't wait!

I'd go for 7200SE's over an early pair of 8k's...

It might help if you advised how big your room is, in 3D.
CMR600 has raised a very relevant point.

7200 can give extraordinary results in various room sizes, from small to relatively large. So can 3200 + DSW

If you are serious you should try to get a home demo of your prospective purchases to make a valid comparative decision.

I don't know the size yet but moving to a 4/5 bed bungalow and looking to dedicate one room to audio.

I would expect somewhere between 15-13 feet X 12-13 feet by what I've been seeing.

I have ever only heard these in large spaces and they always sound amazing, would have thought (but stand corrected) anything less than a 5 x 7 meter space would be overkill. I have a pair of 5k's in a 3 x 7 meter room which is open plan in to 2 other large rooms (total of 50sq meters) and had trouble taming the bass!

I think the changes made to later versions of M speakers including the advances in cabinet construction have made this less problematic.

The jump to SE has made an even bigger impact. I no longer need to faff around with boundary controls or tweaking bass/treble settings. I leave everything flat and it works sublimely.

The control over the music is simply superb. I dont have a big room either but its longer than it is wide which I think helps enormously.

What is your approx. room size and do you fire the speakers down the room or across it?

I'd guess 5m x 10m firing down the room. But there is also a conservatory off the back.

The sound doesn't always sound great in there to be honest!

I have just had the Meridian 8000 set up in my demo room for MQA demos this week and Saturday.

The room is quite small but it works very well, Chris from Meridian along with Matt who has just started for Meridian have set them up and were both equally impressed.

How far are you from Oxford
