What really is the MD600 but a NAS with programmed restrictions? Endpoints will soon be able to run from Roon(Sooloos 3 to me) in addition to Sooloos 2.2 for some fee which is unknown. I hear the cries for patience but silence itself speaks. At the end of the day the parties leave the separation with the intellectual property left with the creator. As M is partially (assumption on my part) owned by Private Equity, they surely would have enforced any intellectual property contractual rights M held; unless in the mutual self interest of both parties this is the way forward. I take comfort in the fact that I can't see why their interests and M's don't align and hope this can help MQA really get off the ground.
Pure speculation on my part, fed by some comments on here and my own computer ignorance mixed in...
Could this parting of ways be down to those programmed restrictions, presumably some of it is to keep the "computer" side of the Store/Core down to a minimum? The push for the kit to be more and more capable needing more processing power and RAM etc may lead to noiser boxes and potentially, at least, risk to the sound quality? MQA is going to require some highly accurate timing to fully reproduce the nuances for instance, will this be better or worse in a NAS with more or less EMI/RFI? Additionally I don't imagine that telling us payed-up customers that our expensive and underpowered kit wasn't whizzy enough to run the new Sooloos 3 would have gone down too well with us, the enthusiastic end-user community. Will we see Meridian quietly extricate themselves from the MD600/MC*00 part of the market and stick to audio endpoints?
Sooloos 2 sounds sublime to me so I'll remain very happy I expect. S2.2 hasn't brought me very much yet, I'm trying the free Tidal introduction, the quality is good I agree, but I cannot find much by some of my favourite artists which is disappointing and whilst I continue to buy and enjoy physical media �240 per year is more than it's worth to me. Additionally I still feel the $/� thing is a rip-off that I struggle to reconcile. Maybe I'm just not born to be a streamer?
That's my issue with Tidal, I often can't find my music by lesser know artists here. This really should be an area where they are working very hard with Independant labels to get them on the platform. Forget the big stars so much, and focus on the future. That's where the real action is anyway. Untill then, physical media stays with me, I suspect a foot in both camps.

Ultimately, I don't believe that Meridian is, or should be, in the business of selling PCs and NAS devices. Future customers going down the Roon route will, no doubt, have more cash available for buying Meridian endpoints (dream of a whole house M system becomes more of a reality) which, I think, is how it should be. Win-win for M and its customers.
Whither existing Sooloos 2.2 owners? Meridian has said that it will continue to support the existing hardware-based system, but I don't believe that that level of informal commitment is enough any more, when there is likely a viable, far cheaper, and probably better, alternative.
Gianni asked why anyone would now buy an MCx00, MD600, or C15. Why indeed (if not through ignorance)? IMO, Meridian needs to break with tradition and roadmap this one publicly.

Well said, I think the fact everything is currently speculation makes things worse, Meridian must have had a major part in the Roon spinoff and as it affects all Sooloos customers we should be provided with the roadmap for 2.2 and Rune support.
Hello everyone. I'm Danny from Roon Labs. I'm Enno's co-founder and CTO from back in the day when we were Sooloos, I was Director of Software Engineering at Meridian, and now I am the CTO of Roon Labs.
I've been posting here and there on this site under other names, but it wasn't really in Meridian's culture to post here often, so I rarely did.
The goal of this forum is for Meridian's streaming products. The moderators were kind enough to set up a new Roon - Streaming forum forum here as well, which was to talk about how Roon will interact with Meridian gear.
I see a lot of discussion about Roon and the future of Sooloos is going on, which is great. Only Meridian can speak to the future of Sooloos, but I'm more than eager to talk about Roon, how it will work, how you guys can benefit from it, and how it may be integrated in your music listening.
I don't mind answering questions about Meridian + Roon here, but unfortunately you guys want answers to questions that I feel weird about answering on a Meridian forum. If you take glance over to the Roon community forums you will see I am active and very open with my answers. I've set up 2 categories, one for the product Roon, and one for the company Roon Labs. Feel free to hit me up there for stuff not directly related to Meridian.
Roon is just getting started, and we have a launch planned. However, a ton of new things will be coming soon after. I don't mind talking about our roadmap and future, even if it hasn't been set in stone.
Cambridgeshire, U.K. -- Meridian Audio sold off its music-software applications business to Roon Labs, a newly established company run by the two men who developed the original Sooloos media server technology that Meridian later acquired. The new company �will create software sold directly to end-users and software for manufacturers, including Meridian,� said a Roon spokesperson.
Excuse my ignorance, but doesn't this imply that Roon Labs could be providing software (rebranded Roon?) to Meridian, perhaps to be called Sooloos 3? It may just be wishful thinking on my part to keep the system "whole." Anyways, I look forward to learning more about how any new service will integrate with my M equipment. I have upgraded my system over the last 6 months or so, following advice directly from Meridian to prepare for future Sooloos developments and MQA and will be very disappointed (putting it mildly) if the roadmap were suddenly changed.

Currently from public statements (or rather the forum postings from Enno), it seems to be strongly suggesting there is not much left for Sooloos (or at least development has been stalled for some time), so the typical lack of public announcements doesn't inspire much confidence.
The entire Sooloos team is gone, ofcourse there is nothing happening except than providing for the final rest of the 2.x codebase.
What should happen and what I believe is going on is that we will see a formal public agreement between Roon and M regarding commitment to the new codebase that we are all excited about.
