Chris, I must disagree.

For their service to work and deliver a reliable service to subscribers, Tidal must have set up a robust and resilient server infrastructure connected to the internet with a high level of Quality of Service. That infrastructure is likely distributed and duplicated to ensure continuity in the event of a disaster and during peak demand periods. None of that comes cheap. And that is what we are paying for, not for the music but for the guaranteed delivery of it to wherever we are. This is not a criticism of the service or the business model.

I cannot see, conceptually, the difference between Tidal integration and Rhapsody/Napster integration.

It would be interesting to know, what an artist gets in the way of royalties and on what basis it is calculated.
