Yes, I would have to pay for Tidal after the free period - I do not see it as a huge thing but am happy that others do.
After this announcement, can I still expect a free Sooloos 2.x upgrade that will support MQA? I thought that it required hardware upgrades (for which I would have to pay) in processors and/or DSP speakers. And MQA likewise is not a big deal for me until sufficient content becomes available.
The comments I targeted were about fixing the "ancient" data and experience. There is clearly software ready to go that fixes those issues. Should I not have expected those fixes to be supplied as part of my substantial investment in Sooloos?

MQA will be a huge deal. TIDAL integration is welcome but quite frankly table stakes. Everyone has it or soon will.
Let's not pretend it's irrational to be disappointed that the long-awaited "ground up rewrite" of Sooloos for which input was gathered from everyone here is now a product owned by another company. Not knowing all the facts and the thinking behind this deal, the only way I can see this being good for M and the Sooloos fan base is if M a got a lot of money for this buyout.
Your not paying for Tidal (as such), your paying for your music. All be it in a new way that fits the modern world.
The Intigration to allow you to do this and enjoy seamless quality is IMHO a big deal.
What's the point listening to Tidal music on an iPad? (However nice the app) Surely seamless Intigration is what we would all be crying out for if we didn't have it already and take it for granted.

My point was that TIDAL already announced that 16 audio manufacturers have or will integrate this streaming service. It's great that we have it in Sooloos, but it's not exactly pioneering (apart from making more metadata accessible when available).
For their service to work and deliver a reliable service to subscribers, Tidal must have set up a robust and resilient server infrastructure connected to the internet with a high level of Quality of Service. That infrastructure is likely distributed and duplicated to ensure continuity in the event of a disaster and during peak demand periods. None of that comes cheap. And that is what we are paying for, not for the music but for the guaranteed delivery of it to wherever we are. This is not a criticism of the service or the business model.
I cannot see, conceptually, the difference between Tidal integration and Rhapsody/Napster integration.
It would be interesting to know, what an artist gets in the way of royalties and on what basis it is calculated.

I take your point but, without the Music there is no need for the infrastructure. So we are paying for the music, as I see it. The investment that has been made is purely for the delivery of the content to a wide audience in good quality and they, rightfuly expect a good return on this. Equally, the artists need to be paid properly, for without them and the music we have nothing. I too would like to know more about how they are paid.

You are (of course) paying for both, but willing to do so because of the music (and the flexibility to stream your choice of music at any particular point in time).
The "Sooloos 3" application that Enno mentioned sometime ago is now Roon, this will be an alternative to Sooloos.
Can someone tell me why this isn't outrageous? People have made decisions based on the reasonable expectation of Sooloos 3 (quoted to be stunning from peeks under wraps at CES).
It has been taken away and we now need to pay extra for it as another service. There is a less bright future for Sooloos.

No-one said "Sooloos 3" was going to be free. They did say it has been built from the ground up since 2010, which is a lot of development time. So it would be reasonable for it to have been chargeable even if it had stayed with Meridian.
On the other hand 2.2 was a free update, and Meridian have stated their commitment to Sooloos 2.x going forward.
No Sooloos update has cost. It is therefore reasonable to make that assumption going forward. People have made decisions on that basis.

I was lead to believe that Sooloos 3 was imminent and fantastic, heavy hints at track level metadata. That's gone, along with the prospects for Sooloos, I can't complain about that?
From what I've gleamed "Sooloos 3" was always intended to be an alternative to Sooloos 2 not a direct replacement. I'm not sure how "Sooloos 3" was to be funded but I'd not rule out some kind of user payment one off or subscription.
I think if Roon could not stream to Meridian hardware that would have been outrageous, but as it is ... it's a commercial arrangement and other than a name change it's still the same application.
Think of positives that having a wider user base will bring (funding = sustained development).
