Hi All,

I'd like to re-introduce myself and the ex-Sooloos team, now that we've spun out of Meridian in pursuit of world domination.

By way of background, I've just posted in our Blog to cover the history.

I appreciate that you guys would benefit from a bit more detail (which will be coming over the next two weeks) but let me give you some highlights. Our new product is a subscription service, entirely distinct from Meridian's Sooloos products.

We've built Roon clients for Mac OS, Windows, Android, and iOS. All these apps have a unified UI/UX and provide rich metadata for artists, albums, tracks, composers, works, performers, and conductors. Our aim is to support a variety of endpoints, including USB DACs, Meridian endpoints, AirPlay, and others.

I'm happy to field any direct questions here but there will be more info posted weekly leading up to our launch.

Thanks to everyone for your support.

Best
Enno

Hi Enno,

Many thanks for your reintroduction under the Roon banner and welcome to the forum once more.

I'm sure there will be lots of questions on Roon itself especial from Meridian Endpoint owners.

Looking forward to reading updates as the Roon launch approaches and trust your team will be at hand to help guide potential users.

Regards,
Carl

Enno,

Roon sounds very exciting, and best of luck to you and your colleagues on the new venture.

Not one for you to answer, but it does call in to question whether the oft mooted track level metadata first mooted in your posts on HHers last year will now be available to Sooloos/Meridian hardware via subscription only to Roon or whether M will themselves continue to move glacially towards this with their own metadata service.

Sooloos, Roon, G series (with LPS upgrade), 800 series (with LPS upgrade), HD621, AC200, Prime and PS, DSPs old and new.

Purdeys, Moke, Leica, 'Blad. Only the best.

Enno,
Is the long awaited update imminent with your recent efforts/launch or delayed by this change?

Will Roon software contain programming for rendering devices, such as MQA, in addition to the indexing/search engine/metadata features or will this be up to each individual licencee?

Hi. For those of us outside of Meridian/Sooloos (I write for ComputerAudiophile and am also the metadata guy for NativeDSD) we are looking forward to this.

Basic question: for those of us who have bastardized some of our album title metadata (in order to, say, differentiate copies of the same work, like Kind Of Blue-DSD vs Kind of Blue-24/192 vs Kind Of Blue-vinyl rip, etc., etc.) many online lookup services (for cover art, etc) become moot as they do not see a match.

So... can Roon somehow see these Album tags and synch up (i.e see that it, at it's basic, is Miles Davis's Kind of Blue) or is there a better "best practices" way to differentiate so products like Roon can be more effective?

Thanks
Ted

Pretty exciting stuff. Two things resonate with me...

1) Enno's signature.. Android! Cannot happen soon enough!

2) Residential Systems At the end of this article, they note upcoming product that "including features clearly intended to appeal to the custom integration"

One thing concerns me...

Roon Blog "The storage on the Meridian "Core" devices could theoretically be used as a NAS as well, but I personally have not had a Sooloos system in a while to play with. If you went with Meridian + QNAP, then we will support that QNAP for storage."

It doesn't sound like a concern to me, it sounds to me like you can run Roon from an Android, OSX, Windows device and use say an MS200 as your endpoint, while you can't run Roon from a Meridian Core you can still see them as an end point.

So you run Sooloos now as you have, and adding Roon services will be easy, it means you don't have to choose to run one or the other, but you have access to both.

Also, think about how many MS200s Meridian can sell if an Android Tablet and one of those gets you some hi end audio, it could be another great way to get customers in through the Meridian door.

This could work very well for both companies if I haven't got it completely wrong, as usual. wink

Yes, I agree that the Android app is good news. I am concerned that development for the platform doesn't look to include M's traditional core, but rather the NAS option. Overnight, it looks like we received evidence that further supports this Idea.
