I'd imagine that the details on any deals between Tidal and the Artists are quite sketchy at best, and who knows if we will ever find out the "real deal"

What I read in two different articles last night was that an Artist stood to benefit in 3 distinct ways from signing up to this particular initiative

a) a "large sum" initially

b) an equity stake in Tidal.......likely "options" for the future

c) Double the Streaming Royalty Rates for Tracks streamed from the Tidal Lossless / Hifi service.......and "standard" Streaming Royalty Rates for Tracks streamed from the regular Tidal "Premium" 320kbps service

If this is true, then it's easy to see the attraction to Artists who feel like they have been "stolen" from by Spotify et al over the last several years

As regards the Artists "greed" referred to earlier, one would have to wonder about the "greed" shown by those who expect music for free

It's ironic to contrast the 'young' with the 'old'......to those of us used to paying e.g. 15 for an album for many years, the prospect of having an 'infinite' library for 20 a month seems like a great deal......while to the 15 to 30 year olds who have grown up in the era of free music via downloads, the prospect of having to pay 20 per month is usually met with "why the hell should I have to pay that [or even anything at all]??"
