Point taken; however, the cause of feminism - as a branch of common humanity - has more pernicious and chronic issues to prioritise than this exploitative ephemera. There are many institutions deeply embedded in our culture that have not yet grasped the concept of women as fully equal human beings, although I won't bait the troll trap by naming names.

I would beg to differ. Sir Mix A Lot probably still cannot believe his success, and appreciates the humor of "I like Big butt's". A song that will stick in my head all day now!

This is apparently serious music, there is no comic side to this. It seems ironic that the SNL 20th anniversary was just this weekend as this is almost too easy.

Sorry, personally I think it's more insulting to suggest that this is "culturally appropriate" to any culture then to suggest that is just idiotic and that performers think they can pass off noise and gyrating rear ends as art... but that is my opinion.

When Puerto Rico hands out life time achievement awards to JLo, they won't be using this as the demo of all her great contributions to the PR.

I think you may have misread me. Appropriate as in "to take possession of", not as in "acceptable".

From Wiki:
Quote
Cultural appropriation is the adoption of elements of one culture by members of a different cultural group. Specifically, the use by cultural outsiders of a minority, oppressed culture's symbols or other cultural elements.[1][2] It differs from acculturation or assimilation in that cultural "appropriation" or "misappropriation" refers to the adoption of these cultural elements, taken from minority cultures by members of the dominant culture, and then using these elements outside of their original cultural context. This cultural property may be forms of dress or personal adornment, music or art, religion, language, intellectual property or social behavior, all of which may have deep cultural meaning to the original culture, but may be used as fashion by those from outside that culture.

Never for a minute did I suggest that this is appropriate. I would certainly agree that I Like Big Butts had musical merit and humour that this derivative tune lacks.
