I'm looking for some advise please.

Last Sunday I got myself a 800v2 with video card VE00.
The purpose is to connect through the component output to the TV. I have been trying to determine what type of cable and connectors I have to buy that fit the output.

Anyone a suggestion? (the other side would be SCART by the way).

Fairly sure that Component to SCART leads are directional, so make sure that it's going the right way.

What other connections does your TV have?

Looking at the connectors, I had a similar thought that RCA would fit the purpose. So I took an audio cinch interlink and they do not fit the component outputs on the video card.

Now am I stupid or am I missing something ?

The connections on the TV are various, but the cable I used in the past to the television was SCART and it has been put in the wall itself, so can not change that one.

You're quite right. You can get RCA to BNC adapters.

Does anyone know if an RGB to SCART lead would work on YUV? I know some SCART adapters have a switch to change between the two, so assume that RGB to SCART leads are wired differently.

It is possible to buy BNC to RCA converters at Maplin et al if you cannot source a BNC to SCART cable directly.

What TV or display do you have? _ very few can accept YUV on a SCART input.

YUV and RGB on SCART aren't the same thing, so you might need a transcoder to convert YUV to RGB.

SCART RGB has R, G & B plus composite video for sync (so 4 connections in the SCART plug). YUV is 3 phono (or BNC in this case) with the sync signal within the Y (green) component signal.

It's possible that the VE00 card can be set to output RGB (I don't know) and you'd use a 4 phono to SCART lead.

If your TV has component inputs (many have) then you can just use three video leads and add BNC adapters on one end.

It's a Panasonic plasma (PD50 something) if I recall correctly.

There are quite some inputs, but can not change the cable in the wall anymore, so I am stuck with the SCART connection I have to tap into.

Component would have the best visual effect, so would like to go from there, only if YUV is not working I might have to consider the lesser connections either S-Video or composite to SCART.

If it's just a cable matter then you should be OK to add a YUV to RGB scart adapter at either end and plug the phono connectors into the YUV inputs on the TV.

So:

VE00 > BNC to (female) phono adapter > YUV to scart adapter* > scart socket (wall inlet) --> scart socket (wall outlet) > scart to YUV adapter* > plasma.

You can buy really cheap composite video or s-video to scart adapters which can be set as input or output, so you can also use these at either end. I agree that component would be best.

I don't know if the card can output deinterlaced YUV but the inputs on the Panasonic should accept that if available.

I am stuck with SCART connection on the TV, so the trick has to be on the connectivity from the VE00 to SCART.

I will buy some really cheap BNC to SCART cable and try first. If it works I can still upgrade to a better version to enhance the quality.

It's just possible that a Panasonic plasma might accept YUV on it's scart input.

Otherwise, a scart to s-video (switchable in or out) adapter would be your best option:

VE00 (S-video out) > s-video lead > s-video to scart adapter (plugged into wall input) --> scart (wall output) > scart to scart (fully wired) lead > TV.

It's a while since I was trying to do the same thing but if I can remember the details it might help you. I'd just bought a lovely secondhand 596 and a 561 to replace various things that all used scart connectors, including a venerable 541. To my surprise I found connecting the 596 BNC video output to my Panasonic telly scart sockets was not easy and for a while ran it with S-VHS out into the appropriate scart on the TV. You cannot easily wire component output into the scart plug despite it looking like you can, me and my soldering iron tried! The issue IIRC is to do with the YUV values being different to RGB so even if you get the switching voltage on the right plug of the scart cable to work the colour can be all wrong. I stand very happy to be corrected if I understand it wrong, but bottom line is it doesn't work.

The answer I ended up with was a JS Technology conversion box, YUV component (and audio if you wanted) input to scart RGB output. Works really well. Cost new about �120 but fairly widely available on AV Forums classifieds for about �30-40 at the time. I ended up with two which I still have but don't use. I would be happy to part with one or both in response to a PM if anybody is interested.

Link to JS Technology box sorry if this link is a bit of a bum-steer as it converts the wrong way but they do make a YUV to scart and VGA convertor that should work, and they're on sale! Hint I don't expect to get very rich if I sell mine!
