I'm not complaining that their catalog is insufficient. I can't say that because I can't access their full catalog so I don't know. Instead I have to pick an album and search to see if they have it. The problem is their UI. That's all I'm saying.

I would expect this is an evolving situation which will improve over time, especialy if they get enough feedback from users.

Thanks Plasmatico, sounds promising. I had a short play with Tidal but did not have the chance to get to grips with it. I remember doing a search for Bach and it returning just a handful of recordings. I really hope that classical (for want of a better description) gets a good look in as Tidal develops, including modern and avant-garde music, that it truly becomes a library to explore.

Something like the Suzuki recording of the Bach cantatas in MQA would be a mouth watering prospect.

You mean Masaaki Suzuki's Bach Cantatas? If so, yes, they do have a big Suzuki catalog including the Cantatas. Like I said, it's impossible for any one place to have everything, but I'm totally impressed by the breadth and depth of the selection. Plus the sound is GREAT!

I wish Meridian revisits the idea of offering a one box streaming device. I'm truly sold on Tidal.

Sorry but I find 110 albums by Miles Davies, and Kind of Blue is there.

I also find loads of old Jazz albums, not just from the 90s.

Took me about 5 seconds ...

The Tidal catalog is very impressive, I have already subscribed and listen on my Sonos. Very happy, does not have everything I like (some catalogs just don't license for streaming). It is NOT the same as browsing in a great CD/LP shop. Sadly, around here they have all gone out of business. Amazon shopping is not as satisfying and second hand sales can be very hit or miss.

even NYC has fewer and fewer CD shops - physical media is disappearing and curated playlists are probably as good as we are going to get in the future. Perhaps in the future we will be able to "find" similarly curated lists of artists and albums/songs from like-minded listeners (similar to last.fm's concept of "Neighbours") and get relevant suggestions that way. Two steps forward, two steps back.

Looking forward to the MQA fidelity increase but sadly and fondly looking back on shopping for CD's at Tower in Piccadilly Circus, Boston, Chicago, NYC, California, CT ... getting real recommendations from humans working in record/CD shops.

Go to Rough Trade Records next time you are in NY. You'll be pleasantly surprised.

Sooloos, Roon, G series (with LPS upgrade), 800 series (with LPS upgrade), HD621, AC200, Prime and PS, DSPs old and new.

Purdeys, Moke, Leica, 'Blad. Only the best.

Dom,

I've been there... it is nicely curated but the selection size doesn't compare to the glory days of 4 floor Tower records in Manhattan or Boston. Also too much vinyl and I can't get excited about all that anymore. The Rough Trade in East London is better for my taste in music, though it is a lot farther from home!

When you can pay $20/month for lossless nearly everything in the world, why buy anything physical?

The Princeton Record Exchange (PREX) in NJ is well worth a visit if you like looking through stacks of used CD's, DVDs and BluRays. Plenty of would-be Hitchhikers listening on portable CD players, checking the CD's before they buy!

Did anyone that attended CES get a more definitive time frame on when Sooloos 2.2 will land with Tidal support? This month, next month, etc?
