MHR and HS='N' are not closely coupled.

On my 861 DSP system HS=Y outputs MHR 96k, HS=N outputs MHR 48k.

It is what's connected to those outputs in Mconfig that affects whether MHR is switched on or not. Now it is only possible to connect DSP speakers to those digital outputs, however they stay active even when nothing is configured thus ...

I would try configuring the G68 to have analogue main fronts and then try it with the DAC i.e. like the 818 setup described in link previously posted.

I never had a G series myself so no guarantees, but it's worth a shot.
