I seem to have 'caught' a virus on my iPad2.

Never seen anything like it! It is opening multiple copies of webpages, typing random characters into dialogue boxes as I watch - just generally behaving like the machine has been possessed! It is also opening multiple copies of the Sooloos app, which is rather concerning. All this happens whilst I watch, without any intervention (apart from me trying to close stuff down as fast as "it" is opening it...).

I thought iPads (Mac stuff) didn't suffer from viruses, but I was clearly mistaken.

Anyway, I had been holding off installing iOS8 because of the Sooloos incompatibilities, but I'm wondering if I should now be installing the new iOS in the hope that this process somehow includes a scan or update which will kill off this infection.

Please can anyone advise:-

1 - a summary of what functionality I will lose on the Sooloos app, before an update is released (I'm afraid I literally don't have time to read through the multi-page thread on this, though I do realise it will contain the answer).

2 - any other suggestions for 'disinfecting' my iPad...?

You might be better doing a factory reset rather than upgrading an 'infected system'?

If I could remove the iOS8 then I will do it immediately. It is very slow and I really hate it. At first you have a good iPad and with the new iOS it is a slow tablet. I got an iPad3.

I would do a factory reset if I was you.

Everyone I know that has put IOS 8 on an iPad 2 has regretted it. IOS 7 just about works.

The reset does not affect the version of iOS currently installed.

I have one each of the last three generations of iPad up to iPad Air2 and all seem to run just fine with iOS 8.1.1. Indeed subjectively, the oldest of the three devices seems to have improved (load speed) somewhat with 8.1.1 over 8.1. I have not hit any bugs that affect my general use of Core Control on these three devices.

Caveat: I have not looked for bugs, but NONE have presented.

The Sooloos app on my iPhone 5S is another story, as reported elsewhere, iOS 8.x killed it. As a result I uninstalled Sooloos from my phone.

Yes, I heard iOS 8.1.1 was meant to help fix the speed issues on older iPads, but we simply haven't tried it on my wife's iPad as it's too much a pain to revert back to iOS 7 if we needed to. Glad to hear it seems to be working, though.

I suspect, at some point, we'll end up getting another iPad Air 2... they've moved on a long way in the past four years
