Didn't make my point clear, sorry.

I wasn't proposing to put the Sooloos hard drive into the QNAP, happy to accept that would be a disaster which would in all probability result in a reformatted hard drive.

I was merely suggesting that one might be able to mount a disk from a TwinStore into an IcyBox, and the copy the music folders/files (if they are readable) from this direct to the QNAP (obviously into the right music folder) without the need to export and reimport.

Sooloos, Roon, G series (with LPS upgrade), 800 series (with LPS upgrade), HD621, AC200, Prime and PS, DSPs old and new.

The music files are readable in the [core IP address]\Share\music2\album folder.

However, they are not intuitive if the 3rd party player uses file names and folder names to ID music.

If the 3rd party tool uses meta tags then it will work.

Sonos and Squeeze can ready and use a Sooloos store just fine today.

However, if the music was imported with Control:PC then it has no meta tags.

Export to HDD is the only route in that instance.

All the files were imported using Control:PC, so it sounds like the use of another TwinStore or MD600 etc. is probably my only option. I have to admit that this was more or less what I was expecting.

I did hope that, having taken a backup, then the backup at least would be readable in some way, however although I can see the folders and backup files, they appear to be in a proprietary format, so I'm no further forward.

Try mounting the back up and pointing your Linn system to it (if possible). As previously pointed out, Sonos and Squeezeboxes can use the Sooloos filesystem without issue. It may be possible for the Linn to do the same. It won't take long to test and may save you a considerable amount of time.

This would be the case if the TwinStore was functional, but it got struck by lightening so is non functional. The only things that appears to be intact are the discs themselves, which due to the encapsulation of the underlying filesystem by the RAID, makes user recovery of data from the drives themselves without a TwinStore or MD600, a risky operation.

If the disk(s) are intact, the best thing to do would be to make a copy or ship the original(s) to a friend with a working MD600 or TwinStore, and then Export (Native Format).

The backup format is a somewhat obfuscated format, which creates directories based on the checksum of the files and normalizes the filenames and cover art, etc, optimized for backing up and restoring to Sooloos servers (not Linn smile )

Just to close off this (now happy) tale: I have successfully transferred all files to a QNAP NAS and have pointed the Linn streamer at the NAS, so I can (at long last) listen to music again! I had a glorious listening session last night and all seems well again.

A very public thanks to Ratbert for all his help; it wouldn't have been possible without him!

Best wishes

Peter
