My reading of the Director user guide is any upsampling is to limited 24/96 (although it does accept higher rates).
Therefore for USB audio this new Explorer2 would appear to trump that (based on pure numbers alone), it remains to be seen which is the better DAC.
Good job, M. Good news on the price too.
As far as launch is concerned, I wonder when this was embargoed until?
Sooloos, Roon, G series (with LPS upgrade), 800 series (with LPS upgrade), HD621, AC200, Prime and PS, DSPs old and new.
Purdeys, Moke, Leica, 'Blad. Only the best.

Seems like it has lost the digital optical output capability? At least I can't see it specified anywhere.
In the spirit of Spinaltap, I would like to confirm that I am not involved in the corrupt theft of a global sport.

Yes, optical out seems to have gone, the emphasis being the best analogue output within the form factor. Hence the up-sampling to 4x as SPDIF transfer is no longer required. At the price, I suspect that the audio quality is going to be pretty damn good.
