Recently I bought my first my first iPad and the main purpose for this was to be able to control my AV-equipment. I already used iPeng for music, My Movies for movies and e2RemoteHD for the set top box on an iPhone, but now I finally also can control my G68ADV.

After reading here that Global Cach iTach Flex now is supported by vMSR I bought the Flex IP and Flex Link RS-232. The Flex Link has a male connector for RS-232 (as the G68), but it comes with a gender changer. First I didnt know if I could use this, or if I had to use a null modem cable. When I read the instructions for the Flex Link I found that there is a setting where its possible to set straight through or null modem. The setting is called Crossover and should be set to True for null modem operation.

I installed the iHelp-app in my laptop to change the setting, but its not necessary. You can also just type the IP-address of your iTach Flex in your web browser to make the settings. This was the only setting I made before installing the vMSR-app (2.1) in my iPad. When starting the app it connected immediately and everything worked as it should. First time I tried to to retrieve the names for the source buttons it failed, but after re-starting the app once it worked fine.

So with vMSR, iPeng and a four finger sweep I come close to the Core Control. smile

Thank you for a great app!

Regards, Erik

Seems like the new vMSR version isn't available for an iPad 1 running iOS 5.1.1 (which is the latest supported iOS for the iPad 1). When trying to update it says iOS 6 required. However this cannot be installed on the 'old' iPad.

Am I correct or am I doing something wrong?

Hi,

Does anyone know if you can use one IP2SL to connect to a Meridian processor from two different apps simultaneously? I control my G65 with an IP2SL and iPad using iRule. I would like to use vMSR as well. There is an option on the serial section of the IP2SL web interface to enable/disable multi-connection but I'm not sure what that does.

Thanks for any thoughts.

Hi Jack,

As you have all the kit, I suggest you just try it and lets us know how you get on.

Yes I guess it can't hurt to try. I just thought one of the tech experts around here might be able to give me an authoritative reply.

So I'm here to tell you that you can use the IP2SL with two controllers, in my case iPad/ iRule and vMSR. Cool.

Really? I thought the vMSR was released only in the last year.

One thing I notice is that when I go from iRule to vMSR it seems vMSR has to reconnect to the "room." I don't remember for sure but I don't think it does that when you switch between Core Control and vMSR. In any case, it reconnects quickly enough for my purposes. I've also set vMSR to connect to a specific "room" rather than let is search and connect to the first option it finds. I guess that speeds up the connection process.
