I have just acquired a pair of DSP3200s as rear channels and I'm not used to configuring DSP speakers without a display. I understand the new DSP3200 firmware has EBA compatibility (presumably a delay built-in) but does anyone have the RS232 commands required to turn it on in the speaker? Any other new commands I should know? My local Premium Partner doesn't know.

I'd really like to see a current list of commands and configuration info for the speaker, it doesn't seem to exist anywhere.

Thanks all,
John

Hi John,
The EBA mode for the DSP3200 should be turned on and off by the processor that you're using for the system. I've had a quick look through your signature but couldn't see the DSP3200s in it. Can you tell me what system these will be part of?
Thanks,
Peter

Peter,

I have a legacy G68D, so it won't be able to turn on and off the EBA. I have turned the EBA to ON (instead of SL) in my DSP7200s and hope to do the same in the DSP3200s.

They will be rear channels on the G68D with an AC11 in between (all speakers are SL).

My signature needs updating but I am waiting until the system is complete as I'm moving and changing things around.

I know there are new RS232 commends available for DSP speakers (mentioned in firmware release notes) but they're not published anywhere. Does anyone have them?

The speakers actually arrive tomorrow.

John

Hi John,

Firstly you'll need a way of connecting to the RS232 part of the DSP3200 SpeakerLink input connector, as they don't have a 9 pin RS232 port. The AC11 should provide this connection, using the master SpeakerLink port.

Then start up Meridian Configuration program.
Go to the Control Window
Command Tab

Firstly use the default command of ID to check the firmware of the DSP3200, and confirm you have connection.
You'll need to be on firmware 1.2.0

Then type EAON in the command line (where ID was) and press Send

The DSP3200 should report back that E(B)A has been turned on.
This is a non-volatile command, so will remain even if the power is removed.

You need to set EBA On in each speaker individually, that's very important! The command is not passed from one to the other.

Hi,

Sorry to hijack thread

Could I also turn EBA on if just using MC200 via the same cables ?

Hi Luke,

You'd need a special adaptor which connects 9 pin d type RS232 from your PC, (or associated USB to RS232 driver) to RJ45.

However there would be no point, as EBA in a DSP3200 is purely an EBA-COMPATIBLE delay, to time align them to other speakers running EBA in a multichannel system. There would be no improvement in sound if you're just running a pair from an MC200.

Hi!

I´m trying to establish contact with my DSP3200 to check firmware and reset them to default (just to be sure its default.)

I've made my own RS232 to SpeakerLink, and checked it with a Fluke.

I've found the pinout in this post;
Quote
C2G RJ45/DB9F mod adaptor (part #81545)
Female D Pin 2 - RJ45 Plug Pin 3 (Black) ---- Data From Speaker
Female D Pin 3 - RJ45 Plug Pin 6 (Yellow) -- Data into Speaker
Female D Pin 5 - RJ45 Plug Pin 2 (Orange) -- Ground
But I can't get it to work. With the control Window I get a connection and can send a CD command, this will turn off green light on the back and when I press "Off" the green light turns on.

In the Commands tab I don't get any response from ID or whatsoever.

What am I doing wrong? I've changed the baud to 9600, no luck.

Is there a possibility that the USB-Serial adapter got the TX/RX mixed? Or is there a standard?

Br,

Hi Dan,

Are you using a 9 Pin RS232 port on a Desktop PC, or a USB to RS232 adaptor?
Maybe it's the adaptor that's the issue, not your RS232 to SpeakerLink converter.

Hi Rick,

I'm using a USB to RS232 adaptor, and a modified Cisco RS232 to RJ45.

The adaptor works fine in my everyday life, consoling into Cisco, Huawei - switches. So it should be a standard RS232 pinout.
I downloaded the Common Installer from Meridian, i don't know if there's something i may be missing?
