Spoke with Meridian Technical support today and the bug is still there. They said that they are working on a fix and will issue one. When is the question though.

Meridian are a shambles aren't they? The problem is common to iOS 8 on iPad and iPhone from what I can see and here we are, three or more weeks in and still no fix. In the meantime, their much vaunted Sooloos is largely unusable.
Unjustifiable strong words imho. Meridian have acknowledged an issue and have said that a solution will be provided. Even today, I am receiving fresh update notifications for apps that have iOS 8 compatibility fixes - one even from Apple themselves.
The problem is only an issue with the iPhone app. The issue on the iPad only affects the explore functionality, a bit of functionality that I bet 99% of people do not use. The main functionality of the iPad app that 99.9% of people would use looks to me to be fully functional.

So I see no one has mentioned this problem so I will. Since the iOS8 updates my Apple devices (2 iPhones, 2 iPads, iPod) were behaving the same as others mentioned in this thread with the "i" issue but now with the 8.1 update NONE of my Apple devices will even connect to my Ensemble. This includes my older iPod on 5.xx. They all "search for the Core" but instead of eventually stopping and allowing me to manually enter the IP they simply keep searching or stop leaving a blank Sooloos screen.
However, all my computers (wired PC's, iMac and wireless Macbook Pro) using Control:PC or Control:Mac (I use both) work just fine so it certainly seems as though the problem is directly tied to the APP for these devices.
Restarting the unit, no difference, unit is identifiable via my router, everything seems to be fine.
I'm getting impatient with the lack of a solution. The unit isn't much good when I can't control them remotely.
Software fixes take time: 1. Find the issue in a highly reproducible way under lab conditions 2. Try a fix 3. Test (this is often a much longer process than the fix itself) 4. Distribute the new version (this can also take time since M doesn't have 100% control of the mechanism)
We'll be seeing fixes in apps for a long time. It's only been 6 weeks since iOS 8 was released. I'd guess if they've been really working at it, they're somewhere in the cycle between steps 2 and 3 (above).

This is interesting as I have the exact opposite issue... my phone (6) and iPad connect to my Sooloos just fine however Control:Mac on my MacBook Pro running Yosemite cannot fine my Sooloos. Parallels running on the same machine connects with Control:PC with no issues... very frustrating as I used to use Control:Mac all the time.
It may be that in the processing of upgrading to Yosemite, Control:Mac had the cached address of the Core flushed.
If you are not on hardwired connection, temporarily connect to wired ethernet and try Control:Mac again. It hopefully will discover the core and then cache the Core address allowing you to use wifi again.

I think I'll avoid iOS 8.1 until Meridian updates their iOS software.
Regarding Control:Mac, whenever I have problems with it not finding the Core, I open Activity Monitor, find the SooloosHelper process and Force Quit it. Next time I open Control:Mac it runs fine. The Yosemite upgrade did cause Control:Mac not to find the Core the first time I ran it, but, once again, this solution worked. It might be worth adding my network is hard wired and I suspect my solution may not work so reliably for those of us who're not following Meridian's advice and instead use Powerline adapters or Wifi adapters to connect zones to the router (as I previously did - and Sooloos was frustratingly unreliable then.)
