If you are desperate enough, you can use Safari on the iPad and point it at your Core and select pick tracks that way. (Control:Web)

Improving the iPad software would be nicer though (or how about the full Control interface on a Windows tablet?)

If the iPad can't cache artwork like the Control:X's then how about pre-reading/locking it into cache at the Core end?
